Personally, that would totally piss me off. They are too lazy to take the cover out for him to sign, and then he signed the BACK of the booklet. I would have given many many complaints to TT on that.

Yep, mine were on the back as well for both McDowell and Wayne.

I don't mind it being on the back so much, but the signature is basically just wavey lines... I know celebs tend to do that because they sign so much, but you would think that signing just 120 copies, sitting at a table, he could have put a little more effort into it.

I have been to many conventions, even a couple where I got to meet Malcolm Mcdowell, and they sign for hours and hours for 2-3 days in a row. So trust me when I say, your autograph wouldn't look any better if he took his time, that's just his signature.

I suppose that some might think it's nice because when a lot of TT titles are next to each other it looks harmonic, but so do Criterion's and they don't look like they were part of a "design the most boring and generic spine imaginable" contest.

I like TT as a label though. I am willing to pay $30 if I like a movie they release, but the designs could look a little more classy for that money.

Considering the effort they seem to put into the front covers and booklet covers, I'm surprised they go with the basic black and white on the spines. It doesn't bother me though.

Perhaps they have the celebs sign the back of the booklets just in case people are a little anal about wanting the front cover pristine, especially considering the fact that they usually use original poster designs.

I don't believe so. TT really only do the autographed blu promo once every 4 to 6 months.

Last signed promo they did was for Christine (signed by Keith Gordon).

WRONG, they did a signing for The Only Game In Town, Hard Times, Mindwarp, Sinbad & The Eye of the Tiger, and maybe another one that I don't recall - all after the Christine signing.

Yes, the ROYAL FLASH one was already under discussion. I'm still waiting for my copy of that signed one, but I finally got my shipping notice today.

And by the way, MOST of these signed TT editions in the past have been signed on the back of the booklet - probably decided beforehand in a spot that is clear of artwork, etc. FRIGHT NIGHT was on the front of the booklet, and Boone signed the actual case (!), but most of the others have been on the back of the booklet. I actually prefer that. People will complain about anything. You get the signature of an iconic actor/director/etc. and it's not in the place you want it so you will complain? Jeezums.

On the back of the booklet actually makes sense to me: if someone likes it well enough, and they wished to frame the signature, they can unfold the book so it lies flat, and have the signature on the left, with the movie poster art on the right. Seems perfect, to me, despite it possibly seeming 'odd' inside the case.

[But in reality: I turn booklets 'face down' so that the edges of the pages that open don't get caught on, and beat up by, the assorted protuberances inside the case - that's regardless of if they are signed or not. With them 'face down' the sig would be on top for me.]

I was actually thinking of the Sinbad, but just typed that out after reading up on the TT Christine blu. Guess that title was still stuck in my mind while posting!

Side note: There was talk back in Aug of last year of Oliver! being signed, but I never heard any additional updates on if it actually happened or not.

Stuart Cooper, director of THE DISAPPEARANCE, did one for that film as well last year.
