The smart way to do those would be in back-to-back months like the Novak movies.

I think Journey is going to drive a fairly quick sellout of the remaining Mysterious Island stock, so that might be a 'golden' opportunity to release more Harryhausen fantasy. Although personally, I'd rather see First Men In the Moon next.

TT is right on the money at the moment: quality movies (although I would argue Demetrius is a borderline "should not have released" case), in a standard BD case with a stylish sleeve, and as an added bonus well-written liner notes.

I should also add that I hate the "mix and match" look that all these various packaging formats give to BDs sitting on a shelf. My Commancheros and An Affair to Remember digibooks - the only two digibooks I reluctantly bought to obtain these movies early - stick out like sore thumbs in my collection. So does my Alien Anthology (UK) digipack box. I prefer a nice even row of little blue cases, which do the job of presenting and protecting the movie perfectly

Of course my Magnadigisteelbook idea will revolutionize all of this - stay tuned.
I think I agree with you, although of course I wouldn't want them to eliminate the magnets just to maximize profitability!

I'm not even going to go into the "mix and match" look of my video shelves, because, well, I guess the less I think about it, the less likely I'm going to start worrying about that. Mostly I just want to have the movies at home, and not even look at the packaging except when I'm taking them out to play them.

I think the slipcovers would add more to the cost than the magnets. A nice slipcover can run a studio as much as $1.50 per unit in additional cost.

When it comes to the classics, I just want the best transfer possible. I don't need slip covers and the like.

Ridiculous. Especially since they have no protective value and are an annoying extra step in getting the disc out. Not to mention 90% of the time it's just redundant artwork.

What a waste.

They might be ridiculous, but the studios have good research and sales data indicating that slipcovers juice sales in certain genres. They are designed for the retail market though, so I'm not sure how much impact they would have on an Internet-only distribution channel.

All of the Harryhausen films are great, but I would love to see Twilight Time release The Golden Voyage of Sinbad soon. Caroline Munroe in High Definition!

I agree, it was nice to get one new Novak a month, and I'm with you on First Men In the Moon just watched it on the weekend, as part of a mini marathon.

Again, what a difference good writing, direction, and performances make...

I have nothing about slips, but what matters is the movie. I am spending $35 for the movie and not for the cardboard, magnet, or other fluff .

Caroline Munro on Blu-ray. My life would be complete if Twilight Time could release Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter on BD. Supposedly Arrow is releasing it this year in a region-locked UK version with a new transfer.

Surely one of the Seven Signs of the Apocalypse. I fear for us as a species when I hear things like this

I just read The First Men in the Moon by H.G. Wells a week ago, and my memories of seeing the movie a couple of years ago are that it's just too far off the mark in too many respects from the book to be a good story, and hence not really one of my favorites. Too many elements tacked on or warped around, the original story is far, far better. On the other hand, Martha Hyer does make up for these shortfalls in some respects

In any case I much prefer the treatment that Wells' Time Machine got (albeit it too was altered quite a bit) than First Men in the Moon, so would love to see that on BD first.

Ahhh, but Lionel Jeffries' interpretation of Cavor was outstanding. I never tire of his wonderfully modulated performance, ranging from eccentric and humourous to tragically heroic. And I loved the look and sound of that movie. I thought Schneer and Harryhausen did an outstanding job of reimagining Wells for the space race era.

I understand it since there are people out there who take advantage of the system and say things got lost even if they turn up (i've seen people on this site who proudly admit they do it almost every time they order from amazon and end up with two of everything), it all just ends up being really quite expensive.
I once had an order of a couple of DVDs from amazon.com.uk that didn't show up after about ten weeks. They shipped replacements and then a week later the original order showed up. I wrote amazon to tell them that I was returning one set but got a response that basically said that they did not know how to deal with it so to forget it.

Same thing happened to me - twice - with Amazon U.S. shipments to Canada Geode. In one of those instances, the cover of the Blu-ray was damaged by a boxcutter slice, although the disc was fine. Amazon not only replaced the damaged set, and told me to keep the item, but also refunded my purchase price in full as a "courtesy". Apparently, it's just not worth their while to pay for Internationally trackable shipping or process such returns, and if you do a lot of business with them, they simply want you to stay happy with their customer service. However, they do track such losses and replacements vs. your overall buying patterns, so if you have no recurring history of stuff going missing or getting damaged in transit, you're okay. But I have heard of buyers being 'cut-off' after too many such claims.

With SAE it's quite different though, not only in terms of the company's scale, but also the limited nature of many of their products. Yeah, I don't like that $15.00 hit for Registered delivery either, but it does keep everyone honest. I mean, when only 3000, 2000, or 1000 units are available for some of these Blu-rays and CDs, it's pretty much the only way to assure that few or none go missing via fraudulent claims. I just make sure I'm buying several items at a time - including purchases for friends who do not have SAE accounts - so that registration fee is spread around. SAE is certainly not a company to be buying from one-at-a-time...especially Internationally.

though technically not TT releases I received Grapes of Wrath and Zorba the Greek bds today.
hopefully will be able to take a look at PQ in the next few hours.
(btw: for those wondering there were no magnets made for these releases even though SAE apparently wanted to make them. Apparently Fox said no.
pretty ridiculous imo.
so there goes one of the reasons one could use for wanting to get these earlier.
guess its true what they say--there's a sucker born every minute.
