Interesting...

This is my limited TT collection:

My upcoming TT purchases will be:
Crimes And Misdemeanors
Thunderbolt And Lightfoot
Equus
All The King's Men
Used Cars
Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation

Of the titles already out (and not sold out obviously) I am wondering what would be good ones for me to snag. I am holding off for now with replacing my DVDs of Philadelphia and Sleepless In Seattle.

It isn't straightforward to pick a list of favorites because I would leave a few great films off the list because they have so-so transfers (Demetrius and the Gladiators, for example, although to be fair the original elements for these are not available and dupes were used to produce the best available transfer).

My top 12:

Rapture
Nicholas and Alexandra
The Blue Max
The Big Heat
Bell, Book, and Candle
Bye-Bye Birdie
As Good as it Gets
Love is a Many Splendored Thing
Mysterious Island
Bite the Bullet
Zulu
Bonjour Tristesse

Really hard to leave out Leave Her to Heaven and Oliver! from a top 12 list, and I could have easily substituted out a few titles for these and a couple of others. The Driver is excellent, so is Those Magnificent Men...... Really a lot of good films released by TT. Zulu is a top five favorite, but I hesitate to include it since I like the Paramount transfer also, for different reasons. Of course, there is also The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Our Man Flint, Major Dundee, Drums Along the Mohawk, The Song of Bernadette, and Experiment in Terror. I also really enjoy High Time, which gets no discussion here at all. I could easily make a top 25 list.

All in all, TT has had an amazing track record of releases that appeal to me.
If I won Powerball, and money therefore was no object, I might try to be a TT completist. But even then, I'd feel uncomfortable keeping some titles out of the hands of people who'd really want them just so I could be a completist.

And the fact is that there are several titles they have that just don't appeal to me. Most of those happen to be the horror titles that everyone else seems to be gaga for. Or The Blue Lagoon...a naked Brooke Shields doesn't excite me that much.

Got my Twilight Time shipment over the weekend that included the Royal Flash promo. Between SAE and the USPS it took a little while to get my stuff, but luckily everything was boxed up well and in perfect condition. I probably won't order anything from them until late Spring or early Summer, so I'm guessing shipping will go a little more smoothly due to better weather.

That's a tragedy. TT should issue full refunds and then be whipped for not respecting cinephiles.

I wonder if TT could put out the original theatrical cut of Stripes since it looks like Sony will never bring it out on blu-ray. Slap an Elmer Bernstein isolated score and Nick Redman Scholarly commentary track and I'd pay $29.99 for it.

I'd buy it even if it was only the theatrical version of the film and no extras.

The South America scene in the extended cut totally destroys the pace of the movie.

After buying the Blu-ray, I went out and rebought the dvd so I could have that theatrical cut again.

Let's just hope Sony does it themselves. Twilight Time is so bad for your wallet, I literally cringe when a film I like gets announced by them.

I agree with this fully. The extended version just doesn't work. I really want the theatrical.

Speaking of Stripes, I assume you've all heard that Harold Ramis has unfortunately died.

Better to lose the uniformity than to live with this case it came in:

No movie suggestions?

After some research it looks like Picnic is right up my alley. Also thinking about Khartoum.

Loved both PICNIC and KHARTOUM, although extremely different films in style and mood. TT's BD of PICNIC looks very, very good with great stereo sound, and KHARTOUM looks truly outstanding with pretty good stereo sound as well as the original overture, intermission, entr'acte, and exit music. I think I actually like KHARTOUM just a bit better than LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.

Thanks for the opinion. That is saying something if you might like Khartoum more than LOA. Wow...

Any other TT gems I might be overlooking?

I was unexpectedly impressed by my first-time viewing of KHARTOUM, having seen LOA quite a few times (and the stunning picture quality certainly helped). Perhaps they'll seem more even with each other after I've see KHARTOUM a few more times.

As for other TT gems, my tastes are pretty eclectic but my favorites are probably RAPTURE and THE WAYWARD BUS, both of which are fairly obscure and not many people bother to take a chance on them. I also like BYE BYE BIRDIE, BONJOUR TRISTESSE, and SWAMP WATER a lot, and all five of those titles have beautiful HD transfers. (In fact, just thinking about them, I'm thinking I need to watch some of those again very soon!)

Yeah, well that's never happening, so that's why I'd like to see TT step up to the plate on this one.

And Harold Ramis' passing did make me think about some of this films, like Stripes for instance.

If you enjoy epics, you couldn't go wrong if you purchased Nicholas and Alexandra; it looks beautiful on BD!
