Maybe it's because where I live and am so use to terrible winters every single year that it really kinda pisses me off when mail coming from the lower east coast/midwest can't make it out when it should due to snow.

In the very worst of storms up here transportation is never really ever halted, the most that happens is the schools get delayed or closed for the day.

If a major-league BD replicator like Cinram can't get non-eco cases from Viva anymore, eventually Discmakers will run out too (if they haven't already), and Cinram ordering Discmakers' stock would only speed that up. In case you didn't notice it, Viva Elite is not just a mold; it's a separate manufacturer from both Cinram & Discmakers.

Time will tell but new Universal releases still come in non-eco Viva Elite cases. In addition, Europe has yet to use eco cases so they'll still be around for a long time.

There's a lot pages in here and I didn't see any info on page one , so my questions is - when will The Blob preorder go up?

Anyone else wish they would let someone else besides Julie Kirgo do write ups in the booklets? I mean most of the time I don't take issue I just wish they would change it up sometimes, maybe they do, I only own 4 Twilight Time titles and they all feature her writing, I'm only assuming all the other titles also feature her opinions.

I really don't like how she portrays Michael Cimino in the "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" booklet. Mainly alluding to that if Cimino have had a man like Eastwood guide his career in film his movies would've been better.

Quote:
Cimino might have benefited in subsequent years from the same kind of firm hand he experienced with Eastwood.
Personally, I think the man made some good films after his debut, sure I might be in the minority here, but they treat the man as if it was all entirely downhill after "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot", going as far as to say "Heaven's Gate" is so terrible they wouldn't dare even speak of it.

EDIT - Opinion on Cimino is certainly divided, but I really do love a lot of his work, "The Deer Hunter", "Year of the Dragon", and even "Heaven's Gate" (which I believe time has helped and more people have warmed up to) and the not so well received "Desperate Hours."

Anybody who says such a thing has absolutely no idea of what they are talking about. That is a fact.

Here's the exact write up from the booklet.

we won't even mention Heaven's Gate
Now, I gotta ask is this the royal "we" as The Dude would say and just Julie Kirgo's stance or is she using the "we" and speaking for herself and Twilight Time as a whole? The latter theory seems a bit ridiculous, I know, but it seems they have a lot of less than flattering things to say regarding Cimino's film they released according to those who've listened to the commentary (I haven't gotten around to it yet) and according to the comments they published in the booklet that I've included here.

Despite what one's opinion may be of Heaven's Gate as a film, it's an accepted fact that it went grossly over budget as a result of Cimino's hubris and caused United Artists to go belly up. This is a significant event in Hollywood history which resonates to this day (for example the reason why T&L is being released on home media as an "MGM" title). In contrast, having experienced such nonsense on the set of Paint Your Wagon, Eastwood is notoriously thrifty, often bringing films UNDER budget which is a rarity. I simply think that all Kirgo is saying is that had Cimino had such a guiding hand on his subsequent films, he might not have gotten himself into such trouble. Who knows, if Clint wasn't involved in T&L, THAT might have gone way over budget and Cimino may never have even had the chance to win those Oscars for Deer Hunter.

This is true, but doesn't reinforce the position in any way that Heaven's Gate is a bad film.

The film who's name cannot be spoken due to it killing UA and the New Hollywood movement. That, I can understand.

Except it didn't. United Artists made a profit the year it was sold and the failure of HG caused only a minor two day blip on owners TransAmerica's share price. All that happened was that it failed to dissuade TransAmerica from selling the company - something that it was ridiculous to expect since even the huge proits of the Bond, Rocky and Pink Panther films couldn't persuade them it was worth keeping (they similarly had no effect whatsoever on TransAmerica's share price, the main reason they wanted to dump the company or change its name to TransAmerica Pictures). All that happened was a change of ownership because TransAmerica was reluctant to invest heavily outside of big proven franchises, just as several other studios - Fox, Columbia, MGM - changed ownership in the 80s and briefly cut back on big budget pictures after a run of flops. UA carried on pretty much as before for several years, churning out huge hits like For Your Eyes only and Rocky III interspersed with flops and underachievers like every other studio in town, until MGM's problems eventually caught up with it.

Of course, that's not nearly as catchy a soundbite, so people keep on printing the legend...

Well, eco cases seem to be the scourge of Blu collecting right now. These were my two newest acquisitions and both came with eco cases. The Annie Hall already had a crack. Both were in padded envelopes but that was not enough to keep the crappy things from falling apart during shipping. Good thing I have a good number of "proper" cases from the last time I ordered them in.

In other news... When is the next TT promotion? I have been waiting to place my next order to finally get some kind of deal.

Since it hasn't been posted here yet, I would assume "no".

Possibly, but I don't recall seeing that mentioned here before. I mean, I think I mentioned that date as the likely one sometime back, since February's date for March pre-orders was the 19th, but that was just an educated guess.

I think you meant concern as hate is too strong of a word.

We either buy them or don't. I do not buy all of their releases but if there's something I want I'll purchase. The price tag makes it prohibitive for me to own all of the releases I might want and sometimes we can find a better value by importing...but " it is what it is". I am a movie lover/collector first.
