I'm immensely pleased with the Twilight Time Blu-ray of Swamp Water. I just finished watching the movie, and I'm now listening to the isolated score while I post.
Since I've lived in Georgia all my life, I'm glad that I'm able to own one of the few older films that used filming locations here in the state. The Okefenokee Swamp sequences are masterful and atmospheric. Dana Andrews starred in several of my favorite film noir movies (Laura, Where the Sidewalk Ends, etc.) as well as in one of my favorite horror films (Night of the Demon) Of course, I cannot forget his amazing role in The Best Years of Our Lives. We all know Anne Baxter from her title role in All About Eve, but she's also quite wonderful in this film. Walter Brennan, who was so good as Stumpy in Rio Bravo, is perfect as Tom Keefer in this film. This black-and-white movie has an impressive transfer here, and the audio is quite good for its source. I would like to have subtitles for a movie like this, but the dialogue is quite clear on the Blu-ray. Another home run for Twilight Time. I should have purchased this movie months ago, and I'm fortunate that it was still available during the sale. With my viewings of Swamp Water and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia today, I'm quite liking Twilight Time right about now. |

If Amoeba really does buy from SAE direct, I'm very surprised they mark up their prices on them by only $10, as they are known to price items with high collector's prices, especially on anything that's not readily available elsewhere and especially anything that's OOP. Just not much profit there on a $10 mark-up.
But yes, Amoeba does exactly what people on Ebay do. Buy low, sell HIGH. And they have it easier, too - as every day, people stroll in and trade in valuable stuff for peanuts not knowing things may be OOP, and then Amoeba looks it up on Amazon, sees the value and puts it on their shelf as OOP for $100. Amoeba even sells on Amazon Marketplace. There's nothing wrong with any of that, of course - they are very savvy businessmen. But it's definitely hard to find any OOP item there that's not already priced at OOP collector's prices. |

And they always have them on release day. While it sucks that its 10 bucks higher, its cool knowing I can walk in there in person and pick one of your releases up on release date. And with the various coupons and credits that are readily available through them, its not to hard to get the price down lower. Thanks for the response much appreciated. |

Just for clarity's sake with the discussion: TT has said that it takes selling 1500 of each title just to reach the break-even point for it (stated back about 100 pages or so on here, or else in one of the interviews linked to from this thread back around then). That combines up-front licensing costs (the largest component of that), physical manufacture and assembly, etc. Other companies don't have those massive costs already invested before they see a penny in returns on their investment, because other companies don't do the up-front licensing/royalty fees.
With that consideration, the larger the pressing number, the longer TT would remain in the red from their investment for each film, because most titles won't sell any faster (and, from the looks of it, some may just barely pass the break-even point in the 3-year exclusive license time). With most titles not selling any faster than they already are, that inability to keep a steady cash flow (so they can license more and keep the lights on, as well as pay their personal mortgages, etc.) is why the 3000 limit. I suspect that studios generally don't like things 'different', so that 3000 limit is across-the-board for every release, even if Twilight Time knew they could sell more of a given title [e.g. horror, Harryhausen]. |

So does anyone know if the Front promos are getting sent to SAE at the same time as the April releases? I placed an order on the 19th of all sales items that appeared to be available, and qualified for the free The Front, so I'm guessing that's the hold up on the order if there is an actual logical hold up.

it has but it won't stop the constant streaming of new people who haven't heard, or don't follow the TT thread, so expect more people to to ask

It really depends on what limits are put in place from the start, if it's like Christine where there was a limit of 10 at the start, and then dropped to 2 after it hit 1000, then it's possible that it may sell out quicker, but if there is a limit of 2 from the start or better yet a limit of 1 then it will slow it down, but make no mistake it will be gone fast.

![]() I don't see them mark up too much, but they certainly do not mark down. Amoeba never seems to mark down niche or cult titles, because their clientele is, well... niche and cult. |
