I was bored so I trawled through They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? and my own memory, to come up with a wish list (I know, unique, right?):
Fox: The Prisoner of Shark Island (Ford) How Green Was My Valley (Ford) Laura (Preminger) My Darling Clementine (Ford) Fallen Angel (Preminger) Nightmare Alley (Goulding) House of Strangers (Mankiewicz) Leave Her to Heaven (Stahl) Sony/Columbia: Lady from Shanghai (Welles) Murder by Contract (Lerner) Gilda (C. Vidor) The Reckless Moment (Ophuls) Night of the Demon (Tourneur) Bonjour Tristesse (Preminger) 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (Rowland) Sundays and Cybele (Bourguignon) Just found out that the one film that Scorsese said he was most influenced by is Murder By Contract. Never seen it but my interest has piqued. |

"Journey to the Center of the Earth - One of the Fox crown jewels, a perennial video release, and beloved classic worldwide. So...uhm...no way." "The Big Heat - Another certified classic with a "Columbia Classics" series DVD, and it's Noir, so fat chance...maybe via Criterion." "Swamp Water - Swamp what? Let me check the IMDb and get back to you..." "Bite the Bullet - Huh? But while I'm already checking the IMDb..." "Désirée - Last seen stateside on Laserdisc. Fox couldn't even be bothered releasing a DVD so it must be in horrible condition." "The Wayward Bus - A rights nightmare. Locked away in the vault per John Steinbeck's instructions. Has his widow passed?" "As Good As It Gets - Too recent and already played out. Now a bargain bin DVD. Did I miss the memo about 'Hell freezing over'?" So when I look at your lists Yami, they all seem equally possible now, depending on how the studio winds are blowing. I'd buy every single one of those titles, I just don't know anymore which ones have a reel chance, and which remain wishful thinking. For example, before TT's announcement of The Big Heat, I would have sworn both it and The Lady From Shanghai would find the same home: Criterion. But now...who knows? The only clue about what we'll be getting from Fox is that their recent releases of The Grapes of Wrath, Zorba the Greek, and Titanic (1953), *seem* to indicate home label interest in taking their "Studio Classics" series to Blu. But since neither Fox nor TT has released anything from the "Fox Film Noir" series yet, who knows which way those will go. As for the Columbia library, other than the upcoming Major Dundee, we've reached the end of the list originally announced by TT. At this point, what they'll get from SPHE is pretty much a coin flip...your guess is as good as mine. Last edited by ROclockCK; 04-15-2012 at 04:02 PM. |

Great list indeed, but i think "Laura" and "How Green Was My Valley " will come straight out of Fox."Leave Her To Heaven" and "My Darling Clementine" as well.Either way i'd be happy(as long as PQ is good)

![]() I think, that one,is the most requested title on TT's FB page.Apparently,Nick Redman is huge noir fan, thus further convincing from the fans of the "The Lady from Shanghai" (as myself) is not necessary ![]() Last edited by Akijama; 04-15-2012 at 07:39 PM. |

I'm sure the decision SPHE has been weighing is "Twilight Time with upfront cash plus no backend legal work or sales tracking/admin" vs. "Criterion with wider market reach, and a history with Welles titles, but more legal and bookeeping requirements with residuals paid out over time." If I was a betting man, I'd lay odds in favour of Criterion with this one. Last edited by ROclockCK; 04-15-2012 at 07:39 PM. |
