Also, bad news: "Twilight Time regrets to announce that our planned August 12th release of the Jerome Kern classic musical CENTENNIAL SUMMER on blu-ray has been indefinitely postponed. This is due to ongoing and unresolved rights issues that prevent the film from being made available to home video at this time. It is hoped that one day in the not too distant future this situation will be rectified, but in the meantime we will adjust and revise our schedule accordingly. Along with many of you we are disappointed that the wait for this long out-of-print film will continue for that bit longer...."
Thanks for the heads up. Ordered Wild at Heart and Rollerball.

It'll be a gas if Criterion decides to schedule the original version of The Vanishing for October.

Since it did not show up on Criterion's Sept slate I was assuming it would be October. It could end up on the same date.

With these recently released titles already under 500 copies (Wild at Heart, Alfredo Garcia, and Rollerball) I guess I better go ahead and get off my butt and order The Train soon just to be on the safe side before that one gets too low.

They adjusted their schedule and moved Man Hunt to August 12th which is a financial relief as October looks to be heavy ..well so does August, it really doesn't matter other than Ill get Man Hunt sooner My wallet will be screaming no matter what month it is lol

Good to see a definitive date for Killer Elite. But what the heck is Noon Wine?

Edit: So I see on IMDB that Noon Wine was basically a tv movie of the week starring Jason Robards and directed by Peckinpah. As big a Peckinpah fan as I am I've never heard of it. Now I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Some odd news about the upcoming Eureka! release of Rapture: it includes a Julie Kirgo/Nick Redman commentary track that's not on the TT release. I know that the film's TT edition came very early in the company's run, back when it wasn't focusing much on extras; however, this still comes off as a bit of a slap in the face for those of us who have paid a premium for TT's product, only to see Kirgo/Redman turn around and provide extra content for a release other than their own.

Even "a bit of Slap in the face"? Really?

Commentaries cost money, TT probably didn't have the funds to produce a commentary back then. Now they have more of a following so they can invest more of the funds into the current projects.

How much money do you really need to make an audio recording of yourself talking?

Noon Wine was basically what saved Peckinpah's career after the fiascos of Major Dundee and The Cincinnati Kid: he went from unemployable to award-nominated and it was one of the factors in Kenneth Hyman giving him a two-picture deal to make The Wild Bunch and The Ballad of Cable Hogue at Warners. It's very good (and hints very much at Cable Hogue), with a particularly memorable pool sequence.

You conveniently left out the first part of what I said--"a bit of." I phrased it that way intentionally, because while it's certainly not the end of the world, it is a bit off-putting.

Don't they have to pay fees to interviewers and to their agents? It's not as easy as "hey let's make a commentary actor a and actor b" "alright let's do it on Sunday come over to my place" "cool, see ya!".

Or if I'm completely wrong please tell me. I'm actually curious how it works now.

In this case, it's literally just two TT employees who recorded the track, so they wouldn't have had to pay outside agents/actors/directors/etc. if they'd done it for their own release. However, sometimes, if one or more of the film's original cast or production crew (or writers, film scholars, etc.) participate in a commentary track, especially for a company not affiliated with the original theatrical release (like Scream Factory), the company putting out the release pays them for their contributions.

It depends how professionally you go about it. Most are done in recording booths (which usually translates as four hours studio time), have to be edited and then approved by lawyers to ensure there's nothing you can get sued over. Or you could just take the fly by the seat of your pants approach and talk into a digital recorder and hope for the best. In either case, payment to cast or crew is incredibly rare - most studios won't pay for cast/crew contributors to commentaries on principle, though some indies do.
