In other words, isn't it a slap in the face for two TT employees to make a commentary track for another company's release (even if it is in the UK), but not their own???

Why would I want to listen to two TT employees talk about the movie? I'd rather they get actors, directors, writers, or a film historian, someone who might know a lot about the genre to do a commentary instead. But that's just me, some people would like to hear the TT employees discuss the movie.

In either case, payment to cast or crew is incredibly rare - most studios won't pay for cast/crew contributors to commentaries on principle, though some indies do.
Oh, so you would need people who just want to volunteer their free time to do a commentary? I thought they would request payment for their time.

It would be nice if they could send out the commentary as an audio file to those that purchased Rapture from them so that we can listen to it while we watch the film. Not a perfect solution, but it would be better than nothing. I would like to hear the commentary since I enjoyed the one they did on Jane Eyre, but I do not want to import a movie I already paid $30 for and I am not region free either.

I wonder if it would take a little longer (several minutes?) for the autographed copies to disappear this time, since they did a similar promo about 2 years ago IIRC (free DVD autographed by Nancy Kwan).

EDIT: Looks like it was not a free promo and was sold at $19.99.

I'd guess this one will stick around longer than the usual 4-10 minutes.

Default ranking The Man from Laramie

For anyone who has this title, how would you rank it in terms of your Westerns on blu-ray? Does it make it into your top 5 in terms of the movie as well as in terms of the PQ? Thanks.

Probably so, but it's a bit harder to predict as they no longer specify the number of copies available (100, 150 copies etc.).

I think that The Man from Laramie looks spectacular on this Blu-ray. It's also a rocking good movie.

It does not go into my top five list of Westerns on Blu-ray, simply because there's so much stellar competition both in terms of movie content and video quality (How the West Was Won, Shane, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Red River, Once Upon a Time in the West, the original 1957 version of 3:10 to Yuma, the new remaster of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and so on), but it's a great Twilight Time title and an excellent film in its own right.

According to Blu-ray.com, westerns and film noir are both "strongly over-represented" in my collection. I love the way that movies in both of these genres look in glorious high definition, though, so I will continue to clog my cinematic arteries with more of these titles as they are released in the format.

Held out as long as a I could but those low quantity alerts freaked me out since i missed the boat on T&L. Picked up Train, Rollerball, BMTHOAG, and Wild at Heart.

Yeah I'd like to see more noirs make it to blu-ray. I never got around to picking up the WB Film Noir Colletion v.2 (I've got 1, 3-4) so I'd like to see Narrow Margin get a blu-ray for sure.

I've got all five of the Warner Bros Film Noir Classic Collection sets, along with the first two Columbia Film Noir sets, the first Kino Film Noir set, the Fox Film Noir series, and a great many others.

I'd be ecstatic to see the Warner RKO film noirs released on Blu-ray. Especially my favorite movie (refer to my avatar).

Are there any other titles than the three they announced a few days ago that are low in stock?

Anyone have any thoughts about Mr Hobbs or Mindwarp? I'm debating picking those up when I do my preorders today, but keep going back and forth on them.

Well to say it's just two "TT employees" is misleading. Nick Redman IS a film historian and a well-respected one at that. He's been involved in several documentaries over the years, particularly involving Sam Peckinpah. He received an Oscar nomination for producing a documentary about the Wild Bunch a while back, and he's been involved in numerous audio commentaries long before he started TT. So it's not like they just got some schlub who answers the phone in reception to do a commentary.

I got a signed copy of Mindwarp as a gift for friends who are big Bruce Campbell fans. Since it was already open, I decided to pop it into my player to watch before giving to them. It's decidedly low budget, fairly grotesque, and a pretty standard dystopian story. I didn't regret watching it, but it has zero replay value for me and I wouldn't recommend it for most people. Unless you're a Bruce Campbell fan, rent it first.
