I also have the "Bye Bye Birdie" Blu-ray and recommend it, but I found Ann even more stunning in the "Viva Las Vegas" Blu-ray which has excellent PQ.

I may have to pick up Birdie at a later month. Hobbs too. I only want two of the releases next month (Samta Vittoria and Man Hunt) so I'll see where the finances lie. If Kino keeps announcing good stuff like they have been everyday, who knows? I really can't keep up anymore. These companies are going hog wild.

I must be one of the only people on this site that despises this movie.
Seriously, from Ann Margret screeching over the beginning credits I wanted to shut it off but I was unfortunately with friends at the time so I had to wait until they had enough of it (which was luckily halfway through). I also found most of the songs painful (especially the telephone song) and a lot of the actors annoying.

If it had gone the way it was supposed to with Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh being the lead characters I think it would've been a much better movie.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest! I like musicals but hate this one.

You're not alone. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I definitely do not like it much at all and I've given it several chances over the years, having first seen it as a kid on Saturday afternoon tv, later rented it on VHS, etc. I revisited it when Twilight Time issued it to reassess it and see if I could appreciate it now, but it still grates on my nerves. And I like musicals, and I love Ann-Margret. Seems like it would be a surefire winner, but exactly the opposite.

You're not alone. I bought this blind as well because my husband and I like musicals and that opening scene over the credits was so iconic. The beginning seemed promising, but the I totally agree with you, most of the songs are just awful and the plot is painfully dippy. At least the picture is nice -- the colors really pop -- so if you like the movie, I'd say it's a safe buy.

The Duke pretty much made the film after he regretted having turned down the role of Dirty Harry, so he made this fun little almost-carbon copy, going so far as to add a catch phrase of his own ("Knock knock...") and also feature John Vernon -the mayor in "Dirty Harry" and later "Sledge Hammer!"- as the heavy. Not a great movie by any means, but a real happy little not-too-serious fish out of water film that's still a joy to watch.

Bye Bye Birdie would be so much better if Janet Leigh didn't have to wear that stupid black wig.

I don't own any TT titles, but I have to buy Birdie one of these months when I've got more money. Wonderful little film.

It is no one's job to police opinions, least of all yours.

Let people talk, if you really don't agree with them put them on ignore.

I understand. I wish MoC would accept my TT of Rapture to trade in for theirs.

It's to be expected ... and even wanted ... to have different opinions. It would be a pretty boring board (and world) if we all agreed all the time.

EDIT: Sorry if that last sentence sounded "preachy". Didn't mean it to come across that way.

Just watched my Rains of Ranchipur disk.

The disk itself had some manufacturing defects around the centre area but luckily it played ok.

Overall very nice PQ and excellent audio presentation.

Be a little careful with the less expensive TT discs (Save Your Legs, Ressurected, The Firm) b/c theyare listed at 34.95 though after the 30% it turns out they are the same price as SAE..
I don't know if this is a sale open to anyone. I got an email (and apparently, I'm not the only one) saying "We miss you" and offering 30% of my next purchase.

I had placed an order with SAE last night for Alfredo Garcia and the two Flint movies. TCM doesn't have Garcia, but it did have the other two listed, so I ordered them and another couple of movies from TCM, and emailed SAE to change my order to just Garcia.

I died a little bit when you said it was "easy to drop".
Brad here. I ended up buying two copies of Bye Bye Birdie from TT as well but for a different reason. A friend of mine I went to high school with (a very lovely lady named Melodye) played "Kim" in our high school (Central Cambria HS, Ebensburg,PA) production of Bye Bye Birdie. So I bought a TT blu-ray copy for her and had it sent to her as a gift. She really appreciated it. Amazing thru the miracle of FB what one can do nowadays for old friends.

Watching the movie myself, seems the ending was a little different from our stage production. I don't recall Conrad Birdie taking a total dive in the ratings after getting decked onstage in our production (he ended up skipping town disguised in drag) but the movie was different. Oh well, still brought back memories as I was part of the play myself (stage hand).

I don't recall a sped-up Russian ballet in our high school production, either.
But the movie's necessary for preserving Dick Van Dyke and Paul Lynde in their role-retiring stage debuts. (How many future HS productions will have the father saying "I don't want your respect!" without adding the classic Lynde whine?) And yes, there is the necessity of preserving 60's Ann-Margaret.

I saw somewhere (on Amazon maybe) that they are releasing a 50th Anniversary Blu-ray edition of Viva Las Vegas. And TT is releasing the Elvis classic Follow That Dream and has confirmed (on FB) there are more Elvis movies in the pipeline.
