With all these sell outs I guess that means Twilight Time are picking great titles to release. Good for them. |

![]() If you're buying it for the pseudo-Criterion ritual of buying anything TT puts out, Golden Voyage is the better of the two Sinbads, and Mysterious Island is recommended for those waiting for Disney to get on the Jules Verne stick and finally put out 20,000 Leagues. ( [Show spoiler] )

I'd say it was not an "ill-formed opinion". He did say he saw the movie back when it was first released, so I'd say his opinion was well-formed. Whether you agree with that opinion is another matter altogether. |

Actually, Blade Runner wasn't considered a classic "from the moment the theater lights came on". It was poorly received by quite a number of people. It was about five years later that the revisionist opinions about it started crawling out of the woodwork, about the time that Criterion released it on laserdisc.

Not a specific date like Criterion has (15th of the month, or first business date following). Twilight Time seems to have fallen into the pattern of announcing two months worth of releases early in the even-numbered months. The September/October releases were announced in early June, so expect the November/December announcements in early August.

You can't even buy it on TCM anymore, or Amazon either. It must be REALLY close now. You can still get it on Amazon, but they only have 207 of them left on there.

![]() Made just slightly more money in theaters that year than Airplane II: the Sequel, but at least $8M more than Universal made on their 1982 flop, "The Thing". |

It was only Scott's 3rd film, so it wasn't like he was some name director. Alien was a hit, so people regarded him as a director with promise. However, the last thing Scott is known for is "tight scriptwriting." That Blade Runner script was a mess. It actually improved during shooting.

And I was one, too. But an awful lot of people went to it thinking that they were going to get a Harrison Ford SF/action film in the vein of Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and didn't know what to make of Blade Runner.

I just finished watching The Mechanic, and I had a "blast" revisiting this movie for the first time in forever.
I'm a 1980s kid, so I'll always think of Stringfellow Hawke on the Airwolf TV series when I see Jan-Michael Vincent. This is probably his best film role, though. I'm quickly accruing a lot of Charles Bronson movies, namely The Great Escape, The Mechanic, Death Wish, Once Upon a Time in the West, Jubal, and Crime Wave (DVD). It's not deliberate, but he just happens to have great roles in several outstanding films. He's great in The Mechanic as a classy and reflective character who can explode into fierce action. The Mechanic looks and sounds just fine to me on this Blu-ray. I'm now enjoying the commentary track as I post. |

Well, maybe HE considered it a classic from the moment the theater lights came on? I was there, too, opening day and I loved it - saw it a few times within two weeks - and I considered it a classic right from the start, even if the majority of people didn't. Same thing happened with The Thing and Cat People. All 3 films were bombs, but they were easily my favorite 3 films of that summer - all immediate classics in my mind.
