But of course, any moderate position is blown completely out of proportion in here. The idea that TT cultivate the idea that these will be the last physical releases of these films, while bottlenecking availability is pretty crazy. You are right. That is what makes you so classy. I'll sum up my only points: I wish early TT titles were better releases. TT is not comparable to Criterion. Don't you think we are done yet? |

It's people's nature to vent. Frankly I find the pissing and moaning far entertaining than just endlessly praising everything. I'll leave that to the folks on the Criterion thread.

I'm not buying the claim that it's collectors that dislike the re-issues: whether your BD is limited to 3000, 5000, or 6000 shouldn't really matter much, it's still a limited edition, it's a collector's item. If re-issues are something that sticks in your crack, then I think you are probably a speculator who is miffed that you might not be able to get $120 for that copy of The Egyptian that isn't even worth the $30 that you paid for it. In which case I say, "tough luck, that's capitalism, you knew the rules, you played, and you lost".
I don't have a problem with Twilight Time's business model. It makes sense to make small print runs of titles that aren't likely to move a lot of copies. The price and availability problem is driven entirely by scalpers. Therefore, I think it is fantastic that they are re-issuing sold-out titles, now I can finally get some of them without giving some jerk $160 for buying up all the copies before I could get one. Serves all you scalpers right, and not nearly hard enough. If you bought multiple copies of Mysterious Island at face value with the intent to speculate, you took a calculated risk for the sake of manufacturing scarcity. When that risk fails and bites you in the tail, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Twilight Time bears no responsibility for the failure of your plan to squeeze other people for an unfair price that is several times higher than the retail price. Frankly, I hope all of you scalpers get stuck holding copies that you can't sell. Oh well, kids... look at the bright side: you still have almost 3 years to try to wring a profit out of Golden Voyage. |

I can understand re-releasing movies after 3 years, but before just looks really bad when they stated time and time again about having to wait 3 years. Especially when the title coming out prematurely is one that sold out in 7 hours the first time. It just comes off as being greedy to me. Like I said before, they really know how to push consumer's buttons. Can't wait for the Twilight Time Defense Force to spin all of this.

First off I just want to let everyone know that I'm not complaining about the films that are limited to 3000 copies. I understand that they don't want to mass produce movies that won't sell as well as more popular films out there.
With that being said, I take it these re-releases will also be limited to about 3000? If so, I really need to jump on Christine and Fright Night this time. |

Who knows really. We know they're upping the limit to 5,000 for The Blob. That could be the new limit for the re-releases, or even higher.

Bottom line is, blu-rays will never be "collector's items." No more than Laserdiscs or VHS or albums or cassette tapes. You can find all in bargain bins for 25 cents - albeit some rare weird Beatles pressing with alternate art or something. Not to mention, when the 3 year window was up, they'd get re-released anyway.
Something like Fright Night might sell for 5x the cost now, but real collector's items are worth more in 50 years. These will not be. |

But I would agree that releasing Christine before March 2016 would be a big mistake for them no doubt. |

Where are these $0.25 bins for albums? Even at the used shops IN THE 90s...the cheapest most common titles would be $0.50 around here. $1 or $2 was more common for more popular titles to $5 for the more scarce titles. |
