Just watched The Train...what a great release by TT. The Train is now one of my favorite TT releases...#2 right after The Big Heat. I'll give the PQ 5/5 FLAWLESS

I am wondering the same thing. I haven't seen either of these, but I had to use SDH to understand Criterion's release of Loach's Kes. I was surprised to discover what was actually said with those thick Yorkshire working class accents when the subtitles were on. Lots of "thee" and "thou" and a few other archaic expressions thrown into the mix.

Obviously, you have to have a taste for naturalistic, working-class British dramas but, for my money, RIFF-RAFF and RAINING STONES are far and away his best films outside of KES. Neither one hits you over the head with their politics,they're both very well-acted and written; and very funny as well as hard-hitting.

RAINING STONES I think of as a sort-of spiritual cousin to BICYCLE THIEVES. It's a very good value double-bill, for those who like such things.

I saw Raining Stones a good few years ago and remember appreciating it, but this post has pretty much instantly made me want to revisit.

Pardon if this has already been discussed, but in response to a question on FB, TT confirmed they have the 1972 Paul Newman-directed film The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds as an upcoming release, although no specific release date yet.

That's great! It's a very good film, and it's odd it never had any form of home video release before.
