Default Screen Archives Wish List problem

Has anyone tried to use the 10% wish list code from their Screen Archives email and gotten an error message like this?

"The discount code xxxxxxxxxx has already been used by this customer account."

I have not placed an order since last month so I did not previously use the code.

My Top 10 favorites. Rapture is the best TT release to date, in my opinion.

#1: Rapture

Followed by, in no particular order:

Bell, Book, and Candle
The Big Heat
Zulu
Nicholas and Alexandra
The Train
The Blue Max
Equus
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison
Love is a Many Splendored Thing

Next ten, and these are every bit as loved as the above:

Major Dundee
Pal Joey
Bonjour Tristesse
Mysterious Island
Bye-Bye Birdie
Oliver!
Leave Her to Heaven
Rollerball
Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines
The Song of Bernadette

But I could easily swap out some of these for a few others, such as The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Violent Saturday, Swamp Water, As Good As it Gets, and Drums Along the Mohawk.

So I cheated and basically have a top 25. I have a long list of "must haves". Another gem that gets virtually no discussion, but one that I find immensely enjoyable, is High Time. Just an all around fun film. Bite the Bullet, The Roots of Heaven, Khartoum, Our Man Flint, and The Wayward Bus are also recommended, just not in my top tier of TT releases.

Picnic is another personal favorite, but not one I can enthusiastically recommend just because it may not appeal to everyone. It is, however, an excellent film, with multiple layers and subversive themes that make it something much more extraordinary than what it first appears. Cover Girl and Demetrius and the Gladiators are also very good and worth owning, but their transfers are not as stellar as most released by TT (mainly due to original elements no longer existing). Expectations should be tempered accordingly, but that may be difficult for some considering the price.

Titles I blind bought but have not yet watched:

Brannigan
The Eddy Duchin Story
Conrack
Radio Days
Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation
Fate is the Hunter
The Front

Blue Lagoon deserves mention on the merits of its picture quality alone - even if it would never rank on its merits as a film.

I really think it is a shame that Rapture has not yet sold out, and is, based on TT's latest count of titles under 700, likely to not sell out before its exclusivity ends in December. Then again, given the recent Region B release from the excellent MOC series, there is now an alternative.

Rapture is probably the best blind buy I ever made, and is the type of title I wish TT would do more of, the little known "lost in the vault" film that manages to find a new generation of fans on blu-ray. In fact, that is the biggest joy to me as a collector of classic films - finding those unknown (to me) gems from yesteryear that are still relevant, make me go "wow", and can still move me to emotional responses decades later.

Well, it can still be enjoyed, but that detail should definitely be wrapped in spoiler tags.

Also, for those interested, here's the trailer, complete with Otto Preminger narration and warning that no one will be admitted after the film begins:

Agree 100% about Rapture, easily my favourite TT release, and probably the best blind buy I ever made also. I ended up getting the Eureka release from the UK as well, just for the Redman/Kirgo commentary.

Given that Rapture is unlikely to sell out and even less likely to get a re-release with extra features, I wonder if there would be anything contractually preventing TT making the commentary available as an MP3 download to people who have already purchased the US disc? It would be a nice thank you that wouldn't cost them anything.

I got that error and emailed Screen Archives. They advie to place the order and put a note in the 'Note' section saying 'give to Ed' and that they would manually apply the discount after the order was placed.

Interesting, I've been on the fence about High Time for quite a while. You're right, there's not a lot of discussion about it. The review here made the humor sound dated, which doesn't bother me that much, but also described it as "sitcom-y," which does; from that period (late 50s, early 60s), I'm always looking for films that were drawing a line between cinema and tv sensibilities instead of trying to water down cinema to bridge the gap. That said, I generally like Blake Edwards, not to mention most of the cast involved.

Since I have no complaints about the presentation of any of these films, I'm just going by movie content alone.

1. The Big Heat
2. Violent Saturday
3. Leave Her to Heaven
4. The Train
5. Experiment in Terror
6. Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison
7. The Driver
8. Rapture
9. Pal Joey
10. Picnic

I'm leaving out a lot of great movies, and that's a shame. This list might change when I finish watching some selections from my most recent order.

Great list. Makes me hope I have a copy of Big Heat in my future.

BTW, my suggestion that PQ/AQ be a factor in these lists wasn't a suggestion that TT discs have suffered in those regards, but rather a suggestion that a film that had previously languished in poor quality on home video might therefore place highly on a list, or that a film that unexpectedly popped on TT bd might place highly, etc.

I'm surprised that Experiment in Terror does not get more love in this thread.

It's a riveting thriller with great work from Lee Remick and Glenn Ford, and it never slows down.

Bunny Lake is Missing has some great long camera takes in it and
[Show spoiler]intially the mystery is rather compelling, but the ending is one of the worst instances of freudian psychology in cinema history and probably would've even made Hitchcock role his eyes
.

Preaching to the choir. I paid $35.00 in 2008, for a copy of the OOP 2003 DVD.
The theme was used for "Creature Features", a local Universal Monsters screening, on WGN, Chicago, in 1971-72.
Then there's Lee Remick...
And Stephanie Powers,
and the great Glenn Ford.

A real powerhouse of a film.

I wish Brian De Palma could persuade WB to send Femme Fatale to Twilight Time. A great title to have an isolated score track since the soundtrack was never released in North America.

I LOVE Femme Fatale! Would kill for a TT release of it.
