Putting a huge amount of copies in your cart and seeing how many copies are actually available to purchase. It's a way of trying to game the system and see if you need to order more or less copies and when. I think Amazon.com has a version of this as well so I don't know why you wouldn't have heard of this term before.

I never buy more than 1 movie at a time and I rarely purchase from Amazon.com since I find that Amazon.ca can give me a better price since I'm in Canada. Thank you for letting me know.

How could they! Who would stoop to these levels!

"Scummy"!

Well when you can make like 100 bucks a copy, yeah. But with the new run being 5000 and this not being a heavy hitter like Christine I don't know.

before the 5000 copy announcement I could pretty much guarantee that this one would sell out in less than 24 hours, but with the increased copies I honestly don't know.... it'll be a "wait and see" type situation

Well one thing is for sure. Scalpers are statistically taking a bigger risk with The Blob than any TT movie ever released. It could sell out in three hours and 50% of those copies end up flooding ebay. I'm not saying this is what I think will happen but there is a possibility.

When I was in college, the movie theater I worked at in the evenings ran Christine for a week in its smallest screen. If we had three people a night in the audience we were lucky. The only film that did worse business when I was working there was the Burt Reynolds-Blake Edwards version of The Man Who Loved Women, which actually had one day when no-one turned up at all (on another, the only two who showed up walked out about a third of the way through).

lol, for sure, at it may not be 50% but I pretty much guarantee that youll see a crap ton of these for resale. it was hyped as the fastest selling title ever type of situation.

yes, but if TT is re-releasing several titles why would you pay $100 when you know a new batch is coming?

Why do people bid higher, and higher when the same seller has the exact same title, also sealed and brand new, at a set, lower price ?

I recently watched a seller on eBay move multiple copies of the Hill Street Blues box (SRP $199.99) by putting one box out for bid, while the rest were listed as BIN, $95.95 which included Priority USPS shipping.
I watched one go past the $95.95, and am sure there were more. Each time an auction ended, he'd list another one. I got beat twice, but the third time I won for $79.40 with the same shipping deal as above.

People get in bidding wars, get excited, and go higher, and higher, and higher. Happens all the time.

yup, I see it all the time, it's why I usually don't list my items on ebay as BIN... I have a hidden price reserve at my price I'm looking for and let the bidding go crazy

I've seen inflated prices from third parties on Facebook for titles that hadn't sold out yet.

I lot of eBay-ers don't even know SAE exists, apparently. I'm looking at a BuyItNow listing for The Mechanic on eBay. The guy has set a price of $39.99 with $2.99 shipping. He has sold 9 and has 3 copies left. Don't think that scalpers, er, entrepreneurs, need to make $100 for it to be worth their while, or that they even have to wait for a title to sell out before they start seeing a profit. As Crazy Eddie used to say, "how do they do it -- volume!"

SAE sells everything still in print on 3rd party Amazon for $31.25 + $3.99 shipping, which works out to the same price if you bought a single title from them directly. I can see if people don't realize that SAE exists, but if they don't even know that Amazon lists 3rd party sellers then they're just ignorant because 3rd party Amazon = BIN ebay.

Exactly. Although a very passionate group, those of us who frequent forums here (and elsewhere I assume) make up only a small portion of amount of people/collectors/fans who want some of these TT releases. We are just "lucky" enough to be educated with all the advance announcements and know months ahead what we will be buying, when we can first buy it, and where to buy it from. For the generally uneducated public, seeing something like this on ebay labeled RARE OOP VHTF etc and them never knowing such a disc was even available (hell, they never seen it at their Best Buy...), then the price inflates even when the same product can still be purchased at the regular MSRP. Ebay can bring out the dumb in a lot of people.

My parents, along with my 34 yr old sister, neither knew you could buy from 3rd party Amazon sellers. It wasn't movies the either were interested in buying, but I recently had to show them that if you click the other buying options, you can sometimes buy stuff cheaper than you can with the Amazon price. All 3 are highly educated, they just don't get into the online shopping as much as I do, and were unaware such a feature existed, even though its right in front of your face on the product listing page. Yes though, it is ignorance, as they are ignorant that such a feature is even available.
