I'd never heard of this movie, somehow. It was apparently Fox's highest grossing movie of the 40s? Weird how it almost never gets mentioned, it sounds like it has some very vocal fans (Scorsese for one). Technicolor noir costarring vincent price? I need to get it! I'll probably buy it when I preorder the blob. I wish I'd known about it when they had that 20 dollar sale a few months ago. I'm still on the fence about a couple of their movies (Equus and Man Hunt), I'll probably buy them when there's an extreme low stock alert if a sale doesn't happen first.
I didn't know what the Driver was, either, but it sounds good. It sounds like the studiocanal version is considerably better, though. I'll have to watch for that to drop in price. |

I'd like to know how many copies are left of Two Rode Together, and Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation ...trying to keep expenditures down this month...
I still remember this line from my childhood : I just said I wanted some sun on the beach. ![]() |

HOBBS is a lot of fun and very much a time capsule of the early to mid-1960s . Be sure to get it first. TWO RODE is pretty interesting if you like westerns, and even second-rate John Ford is better than most other movies, but buying it can be put off unless you're an avid Jimmy Stewart fan.

![]() ![]() I think it is also criminal that Rapture has not yet sold out and has not made the short list of titles below 700 either. Only three months remaining before its exclusive term expires for TT. I hope it doesn't become their first title to reach the end with copies remaining. It deserves to have sold out long ago. |

Criterion is releasing Patricia Gozzi's starring vehicle Sundays and Cybele (1962) at the end of September, a film she made three years before Rapture. For those who discover Gozzi for the first time via Criterion, they will still have a brief window remaining to pick up Rapture before it times out. Who knows, the Criterion might give a sales bump to TT. To me, Gozzi is the great "what if", a phenomenal talent who ended her film career by her own choice far too early only a few years after Rapture.
EDIT: Posted at the same time as Blu-Velvet. Haha....great minds think alike. Last edited by oildude; 09-06-2014 at 06:36 PM. |

The "time out" should only apply to Twilight Time's right to exclusivity. I don't believe that they have to stop selling already-pressed copies once the window expires. They're still selling copies of their DVDs of The Kremlin Letter and Woman Obsessed, both of which passed their 3-year window (in March and June of this year, respectively).

Interestingly, I just watched LOLA last night from Criterion's new Jacques Demy set, and two weeks ago revisited Kubrick's LOLITA. It may be coincidence, but it's like there was a brief period in the early 60s that was not afraid to explore relationships between young teenage girls with older men, some 15-20 years before Woody Allen's MANHATTAN and three decades before INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE made it to the screen. |

Conversely, if you've seen Rapture (and liked it) I can highly recommend Sundays and Cybele as a blind buy - it's also a fantastic film.

![]() I don thin so Lucy. ![]() Wish I had done a little more research on their poor customer service, before being seduced by a lower price. At least the woman that helped me was polite, and understanding. Somewhere an Audrey Hepburn fan is holding Red River, thinking WTF ? Last edited by MikeZ.; 09-06-2014 at 08:23 PM. |

That seems sensible. Certainly with the slow sales I can't see another label or Fox themselves rushing out to strike more copies once the three years are up. I'm rather curious to see if Eureka had more luck with it in the UK.
