Just shopping on TT's website and they tried to slug me for an extra 15 dollars if I wanted my purchase honored should it go missing in the mail. This is for people outside of US apparently. In their wording, they try to make it sound like shipments to MY specific country have been going missing a lot. Complete BS.

This is in addition to their regular shipping charges.

I really loved how I read their prices and postage costs before spending half an hour on their site, only to be hit with this SURPRISE at checkout.

Evidently they cannot manage the same postage costs as other distributors either, and have to have a "deluxe premium" on that as well as the BD.

WOW I just put in all my cc details including cvc, and went thru the final submit stage, after which it refreshes and takes me back to the sites main product page.

No email verification of order and when I try to see "view my orders" nothing appears, but the items are still in my cart.

If the items are still in the cart then it sounds like the order didn't go through.

I redid it and it went thru. I think I hit "submit" for "discount codes" but not the lower "confirm order" box, so my fault.

The website is NOT Twilight Time's - it is Screen Archives Entertainment.

Sorry if this is old news, but is that $10-off-$50 AMAZON code still working?
Anyone have a clue about any new codes or discounts that might be on the horizon?

True... but since SAE is the only authorized seller of Twilight Time releases... I think it is fair for a consumer to consider them one in the same... so if SAE messes up your order, it reflects just as poorly on Twilight Time as it does SAE.

Not really. If Best Buy had an exclusive Paramount BD, and they messed up your order, you wouldn't blame Paramount.

Sorry not a good analogy. If Paramount only sold their BD's thru Best Buy, then we would have something better to compare.

Thats why an Exclusive was mentioned.

Yeah I understand that, and still not a good analogy to compare a "one off" vs an entire business model.

It's a perfectly fine analogy... Say Best Buy messed up your order for 'The Ring' (which is a paramount title sold exclusively through Best Buy). I wouldn't blame paramount for the mistake. I'd blame Best Buy for their incompetence.

I'll politely disagree - yes it would be annoying but it is not on the same SCALE.

Anyway I don't really care. I don't like their business model, but I just bought most of their BD line - but I don't have to tell myself it is all rosy.

I don't know how I didn't notice that Cover Girl was getting released on blu-ray until noticing today. I just ordered it from Twilight Time!

I don't understand why you are unhappy that a company is doing what is reasonable to protect it's interest, as well as it's customers, in regards to shipping.

Accidents happen. And even though you may be honest in your dealings, there are many individuals who do whatever they can, to cheat the system as it were, claiming they never got their order, hoping to milk the company out of it's rightful money and product.

Would you feel the same way, if you made a large purchase that subsequently never arrived, and neither you nor the company had any way of tracking the order?

You stated you don't like their business model. You complain about the shipping cost, and then place a large order with them. That doesn't make sense to me. Logic would dictate, that if one did not approve of a company's business model, as well as it's shipping practice, one does not do business with the company in question.

No, logic does not dictate I would not buy from them. If I want the product badly enough and they are the only source, I will buy. Regarding shipping costs, all the other companies I dealt with seemed to have insurance/replacement costs factored into their standard shipping fees.

In 10 years of buying online I have never had a shipment go missing in the mail.

Yes. He should buy the discs from another company.

Oh, wait a minute...that won't work.

Obviously, competition is not an issue when only a single source is the appointed outlet for the product you want. When we deal with a monopoly, we do what we have do do if we are movie fans.

Personally, I don't really have a horse in this race since I ignore the scary warning and I have my Twilight Time discs sent through the regular mail to Canada. I'm not conned by scary windows popping up on my computer screen. And I doubt that Screen Archives really makes any extra money with this nonsense. I'm sure the extra postage involved really does go towards the cost of registering packages.

I'm just be curious to see if there is any truth to that scary message. Of course, we'll never know. I doubt if Screen Archives even knows. I just find it hard to believe...if not downright amusing...that "large numbers of packages go missing" in "your country" . Having ordered everything from car parts to cameras and more for a few decades, nothing has ever gone missing. I'm not exactly sure why discs from Screen Archives supposedly disappear into some black hole when they leave the U.S. .

However, I do give Screen Archives full credit for at least giving us the option of ignoring that ridiculous warning. Bravo to them! If you ignore the scary message, their basic postage is very cheap and the service is good and reliable. I'm honestly thankful for that. Some other companies (who shall remain nameless but their initials are: Shout Factory) don't give us a shipping option and force us to pay the highest rate. That company know by the initials: Shout Factory charges $24.95 to ship a disc to Canada if you order direct (and no, that doesn't actually include the disc).

So screw the fake warning and pay the $4.60 cheap postage to Canada.

I've actually saved enough money now that I can (as I've mentioned before) "self insure". By using the cheap, basic postage, I've saved about $60.00 on my various TT purchases. That means, should a disc go missing (which seems highly unlikely), I can afford to replace it at my own expense and still be ahead of the game.

You are correct, He, along with other foreign buyers, have the option to forego the extra shipping security cost.

Darren also had the option of not making a purchase. He could have waited to see if the titles he desired, were subsequently made available from another company, which he did not disapprove of. Buying from a company whom you disagree with, (as to business model and practices) does nothing but support the very thing you claim to disapprove of. I just don't see the mindset of "I don't like how you run your company and the prices you charge, but, please take my money anyway," as being logical. It makes me wonder if the dissent is more a matter of preference than principle.
