Dunno if it sold out yet, but even though I don't want it this time either, just had a twinge of well maybe I should get it anyway for Fright Night an hour or so ago. Hope it sells out soon and whoever gets the copy I thought about getting enjoys it more than I ever would.
Was waiting until the new year to do any new (pre-) orders. Any ideas when the next autographed copy of something is? |

They may have earned $150,000 in revenue but that's not reflective of the actual profit made which is less. |

Twilight Time has said it takes around the halfway point (1,500 copies sold) for them to start making any profit on the release of a title. The cost per copy is probably a bit less considering this is a 5,000 copy print run but one could reasonably estimate a cost of around $45,000 towards manufacturing/licensing - it could have been a bit higher - but that leaves somewhere in the ballpark of $105,000 profit for the sold out re-release of Fright Night.

True enough, in terms of revenue vs. profit.
Then again, it wasn't even $150K in revenue. The $150K is SAE's revenue, so TT's revenue would be $150K minus whatever SAE's cut is. But that's all splitting hairs. |

Also, you are probably right. Licensing probably cost a bit more. Cost of manufacturing surely cost more too, but less per title printed. I was just giving a somewhat-reasonable guess on the cost and amount earned. Let's say it was $10,000 more to license and manufacture... that would still be $95,000 for the release. I can't imagine it being too far off from that $10,000 difference ballpark (although that is quite the range). jayembee also made a good point about how much of a cut Screen Archives makes on each copy sold. Only Twilight Time knows exactly what they will have made off of the release. In any case, I know we've heard that some releases they issue don't even sell 1,500 copies -- which is what was stated as the halfway point, the point where the start to make actual profit. So it's worth considering how much profit they make on certain titles actually is helping them to make up for other releases where they might not be making any profit or a small profit at best. The higher selling titles help them to put out the larger quantity of titles per month, too. Bottom line, though... Twilight Time has clearly worked out something good for them and are making enough of a profit to continue and prosper. |

There's been some speculation about this old post on the Criterion forums. Picnic will be the first Sony title to come up on the 3 year window that hasn't sold out. Guess we'll find out what happens here in 10 days.

if the story is true about destruction, then those will be the rarest discs. i mean, less copies on the market than any others. i have no interest in any of the 4 listed above, so i won't bite, but if true, wow, that's seriously some incentive to get out there and get them NOW.

The Fox title Rapture just past the 3 year mark and still is available. I'm guessing they have the same deal as they do with Sony. I think TT paid a flat rate for 3,000 units of Picnic, Pal Joey etc. regardless, the 3 year mark only makes it available for someone else after that date or TT could renew. TT may have to cut the price on it eventually.
