Mississippi Mermaid - Yes! 2015 has been great year for Truffaut on Blu ray. Now we need Warner to do something with Day for Night.

Me too, I just swapped out my hd dvr Thursday and was sad to see Absolute Beginners go... not any more. (Now if only some of the others that went away would come out on blu.)

While I'm not spinning discs, I spend way too much time watching my dvr, most all of these new announcements have been on it at one time or another. Pretty good selection, going to be tough deciding.

(I almost posted Absolute Beginners when people were listing things they'd like to see this time around, but I decided nah that will never happen. )

If you get a chance (don't know how readily available it is), and if you have the stomach for it, a movie related to Bowie you might want to add to your list for viewing some day is Christiana F..

There was a lawsuit from the Tuffaut estate over Warners' rights on that one a few years back. No idea how it turned out, but here's what was reported at the time:

Truffaut heirs sue Warner over DVD release

PARIS, July 9 (AFP) - Heirs of the late French director Francois Truffaut, who died of a brain tumour 20 years ago, have launched legal proceedings against Time Warner and its French subsidiary over the DVD rights to his Oscar-winning 1973 film "La Nuit Americaine", aka "Day for Night".

Lawyers for Laura, Eva and Josephine Truffaut said they were applying for a summary judgement against Time Warner Inc and Warner Bros France for the "illegal production and sale of the DVD" of the movie, which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

The heirs are asking that an expert be named to assess alleged damage and force Warner to pay out a minimum EUR 1 million (USD 1.2 million) provision and EUR 500 per day pending a halt in the production and sale of the DVD, the family lawyer Francois Zimeray told AFP.

"This case is typical of the difficult relations between artists and the giants of world distribution," Zimeray said. Truffaut himself "never made a cent" on the contracts with Warner, who said the account was in the red.

Rights to the film, released in theatres May 24, 1973, were ceded to Warner by the French company Films du Carosse for 30 years, thus expiring May 24, 2003.

But the French plaintiffs claim Time Warner and its subsidiaries produced a DVD of the "New Wave" director's movie "only shortly before" the expiry of the rights. The DVD was released in France on November 20, 2002, and in the United States on March 18, 2003.

The film firms thus "became counterfeiters because they continued to produce and sell (it) posterior to May 24," according to the text of the legal assignation.

A bailiff has reported that the DVD was on sale in Paris stores June 30.

"There is a tolerance allowing editors of books and records to sell stocks after rights expire," Zimeray said. "But when tens of thousands of DVDs are produced shortly before the deadline, that is called abusing the law."

He said Warner had ceded the rights worldwide to television stations, and that in France one channel had screened the film last June 3 after acquiring rights for a nine-month period as from last March 1.

The proceedings have been filed before the Nanterre law court in the western Paris suburbs.

Day For Night is currently available from Amazon for $12.70. They probably settled the lawsuit. But probably only for DVD. So who knows at this point if it will ever make it to Blu ray.

Pah! Can't really complain as there are some good titles there; just none of the ones on MY wishlist...

TT are my best hope for THE VIKINGS, JABBERWOCKY, THE FORTUNE COOKIE, EMPEROR OF THE NORTH, ROBIN AND MARIAN, HUSBANDS AND WIVES, WATERLOO, HIS GIRL FRIDAY, Cronenberg's CRASH, IN A LONELY PLACE, HOW TO STEAL A MILLION, BUGSY, IMAGES, MONKEY BUSINESS etc etc

Disheartening to know I have to wait another two months before another spin of the wheel.

But I will pick up most of these anyway.

I'll get
A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS
THE YOUNG LIONS
for sure, but even those 2 aren't a high priority to me. Pretty underwhelming batch IMO, and still no Bananas.

No Zardoz on the new release list. Is it pretty much on indefinite hold now?

Fox is still working on the restoration. TT's latest word from Facebook:

As we have stated, the new restoration of Zardoz is still in progress...it will be well worth the wait to late March /early April.

Glad it's still coming. I think I remmebered hearing about the March/April date but I guess I assumed that was going to be the release date. Not the announcemwnt date. Better late than never.

Your selections are absolutely spot on! I would add "The Three Worlds of Gulliver" and "One Million Years B.C." to round out my Harryhausen wish list. Adding to your great list would be ""The Long Ships" and "The Trouble With Angels." The first a rousing Viking adventure with Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier, and the second a great Haley Mills effort with Rosalind Russel. All these great films need to be on Blu-ray now!

Those are the films that would catch my attention immediately (One Million Years BC, Baskervilles, Return of the Vampire, anything with Vincent Price)
They do have a deal with MGM so Im sure its a safe bet they acquired a few select MGM horror sci fi titles

Here's a heads up for anybody interested in The Young Lions (me included). I just noticed that TCM will be showing it tomorrow (Monday, Feb. 9) from 5-8pm EST. Set those DVRs.
