I'm talking about North American rights.
Yes, some other label could always try to get the North American rights if TT doesn't renew them with Sony. However, Sony has already released this overseas so I can't see many labels trying to acquire those rights.

I can see Mill Creek picking this up, I don't see Sony doing a wide North American release.

That's a very good possibility of course Sony surprised me when they announced My Girl for Blu-ray release. I thought for sure Sony NA catalog releases were long dead.

Now, the current TT release dropped the filmakers' commentary so a release could be in the equation even if it's unlikely.

I don't see TT picking it back up nor Sony putting it out themselves. Probably Mill Creek is the only party that would be remotely interested and considering 3000 units (plus some imports) are in the States, I don't see them issuing a new release of As Good As It Gets anytime soon.

My copy of THE BRIDE WORE BLACK came in an eco case.

This is the worst thing Twilight Time has ever done!

Is there a separate thread regarding Twilight Time deals? I know they occasionally offer a signed copy of a particular movie free with a minimum purchase, and I was preparing to buy a few. Anybody get advance notice of these deals?

No existing thread and TT only announces signed editions with short notice plus the only deal they've offered was for their three year anniversary.

Based on release dates, the following TT titles are now past the exclusive three year license period without selling out:

Rapture
The Roots of Heaven
Picnic
Pal Joey
Swamp Water

Some brief notes:

These are all excellent films. I blind bought all of them and recommend them highly.

Rapture is my favorite TT release to date. I have written enough posts here praising it, so I figure no need to say more than that.

Pal Joey is a fun Sinatra movie with a lot of heart, a glorious time capsule look at San Francisco five decades ago, and a couple of gals named Novak and Hayworth. It doesn't get much better than that.

Picnic is quite wonderful, a steamy (for the 1950s) pairing of William Holden and Kim Novak, and even though Holden is a bit too old for the part here, the results are memorable. I was impressed enough after watching the story presented in this strikingly colorful high definition transfer to write a user review for it under its listing here on this site.

The Roots of Heaven is a gem I discovered thanks to this Blu-ray. John Huston serves up a tale of African conservation, big game hunting, heroism, tragedy, and sweltering heat cooled by cocktails at the bar in this ahead-of-its-time look at environmental protection of elephants and ivory. Another one that I wrote a user review for under its listing here.

Swamp Water.....got a special place in my movie thoughts for this one. Luminous black and white cinematography of life on the edges of the swamps of Georgia in this dark little melodrama involving murder, pride, social envy, sexual tension, and a fugitive from justice. What magic John Ford found in Monument Valley and westerns, Jean Renoir has captured in the gothic possibilities of the Okefenokee, 'coon dogs, and isolated Southern culture.

I love Swamp Water, Rapture and The Roots of Heaven (in that order). But I couldn't get into Picnic (in large part because it seemed William Holden was sorely miscast). I did rewatch part of Picnic with the isolated score and subs on, and that seemed to work better for me.

Haven't seen Pal Joey yet, but I have it.

What do you want for 35 bucks? Just be thankful that TT was around or you would never get this title released on Blu-Ray...and blah, blah, blah. No. I'm sorry. For 35 bucks you should get a quality case. End of story. If this was a budget title from another label, an eco case would still be unwanted but acceptable given the price. Even the TT apologists have to agree with me on that one.

It probably doesn't help that Picnic and Pal Joey are still $34.95 plus $4 for shipping, and since these are early TT releases, they don't include much in the way of special features. I'd like to pick up Picnic, but I can't justify spending almost $40 on a practically bare-bones release (I don't care about isolated scores). If the price came in line with the rest of their releases, I'd be more inclined to pick it up. (If anyone out there wants to sell me a copy, I'm open to offers.)

No. I didn't say "no relation to anything in your post". I wrote:

Accent mine for this post. "my point" is not saying "nothing in my post". You really do need to read more carefully.

I'm done. You misrepresented what I was saying for each of your responses today. In fact, some of your 'rebuttal' was misquoting me, then saying the very thing I had actually said. If you aren't going to read - and try to understand - what I said, I'm not going to correct each error throughout your response. [Oh, and by the way, it is possible to read posts in detail and pay little attention to the name of the person who wrote them. Doing one does not require doing the other.]

I went ahead and bit on As Good As It Gets. I adore that movie far too much to miss the opportunity to own it on Blu-ray. Thanks!

And your point is invalid, no matter how much you choose to misquote, misattribute and misrepresent the responses before throwing your toys out of the pram in a tantrum. Every format has competition of one kind or another, and few of those are dependent on the customer ending up owning a physical copy of a film: the format may change, but that fact does not. It's why the prices of going to the movies has increased beyond the rate of inflation since TV came in and why the price of new back-catalogue titles on physical media is going up now streaming is eating into the casual market.

Someone kvetching about others not paying attention really shouldn't be boasting about not paying attention to the person whose post they were replying to, don't you think?

And to be honest, how many labels are there left to sublicense to anyway? Image haven't exactly flooded the market with Sony titles, which pretty much leaves Mill Creek and Echo Bridge doing a low bitrate vanilla release or double/quadruple bills.

Rapture is such a wonderful film! I'm a little sad that it's the oldest of TT's releases that hasn't sold out. If it had been released by Criterion, the folks over in that thread would be waxing poetically about its greatness.

Just out of curiosity, is there a special link for preordering when a title goes live for orders or do you just go to SAE's website?

I'm still waiting for Mill Creek to release The Last Detail. It seems like forever since it was announced they had the rights. Not expecting much, I'd be happy with a barebones release, although I think it deserves more.
