I think that's probably the real problem. I'm sure that Olive licensed a wishlist and found after signing the deal that Paramount simply didn't have material suitable for use, which is why we'll probably never see titles like The Savage Innocents, J'Accuse, Ophelia or The Stationmaster's Wife, which were announced way back in 2010, and why Fedora took four years to finally turn up.

It's probably one reason why Twilight Time play their cards so close to the chest on what titles they have the rights to: announce them too soon and the initial excitement gives way to disappointment when they take so long to finally come out.

Yes, but obscure doesn't equal bottom of the barrel. As a noir fan, I'm perfectly happy to scoop up all of the obscure but well-made noirs that they've released. Titles like Shack Out on 101, Plunder Road and City That Never Sleeps are certainly obscure, but they're also entertaining and worth revisiting.

Plus, shouldn't we be celebrating the fact that a label is willing to take a chance and find a market for obscure films on blu-ray? I'd rather have too many films on blu than not enough.

Boy I figured Hard Times and The Driver would have been gone by now.

I can remember people here predicting they would sell out in a few months when they first went on sale. They seem to have been around for ages though.

I guess as with many of these films they sell a lot quickly to the fans of the film, but then with the premium prices sales fall off a cliff so the last 500 or 1,000 copies take forever to sell as people who wanted it at the price TT charge have already bought it.

Aren't many of these older titles now only shifting as people look for the 5 titles they need to get an autographed disk in one of the promotions.

Journey to the center of the earth, Bounty, and U-Turn. Which ones do you think will sell out the fastest if they do sell out. I can afford one right now and I don't want to miss out on any of them.

I think it will take longer, it's not like they're Horror titles.

As I've said before, no non-horror titles have sold out in less than two months. Journey to the Center of the Earth may change that, but with 5000 copies this time around, I suspect it may last at least a week.

The other two may sell quickly, but I would expect them to last at least a few months.

I'd say somewhere between 2 to 12 weeks (from pre-order date), a wide range since it's hard to tell. It has been released here before, there's also the international edition available (I've almost bit on it a few times) and it's been bumped to 5000 copies. This does have the 4k restoration work going for it though but the compression problems from Fright Night might make people wait for reviews.

I honestly think it will be closer to the 3 month mark because of some of those factors but either way, it will be day one for me and many others (same with First Men in the Moon).

I agree with you Journey and First Men are day 1 pre-orders for me. They will definitely sell out, just don't want to predict how fast. First Men will probably be the one to go first as that is a world exclusive on BD whereas Journey has the existing TT and Australian disks out there.

I think it's hard to say exactly how long these two titles will last, but I do think Harryhausen fans - in the case of First Men in the Moon - are almost as dedicated as most horror enthusiasts. Both films though were a huge part of many people's childhoods and I think the nostalgia along with the restoration of Journey will sell them pretty well.

You're absolutely right. I guess I was trying to say that Olive releases a lot of those "wow, this made it out on Blu-ray?" movies compared to other labels. Perhaps bottom of the barrel was a poor choice of words.

As for the risk, it depends on what they paid for licensing. If they get what they paid for, I don't think the risk would be more than more any other catalog movie.

I'm a huge fan and will order as soon as it goes live, I never take a chance with anything I really want from TT, Sinbads were the fastest seller and it still took 61 days for Golden voyage, and 91 days for Eye of the Tiger

True enough, but The Golden Voyage of Sinbad took 2 months to sell out, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger took 3½ months, and Mysterious Island took 9 months. Now, in the case of Island, it's true that it was early days for Twilight Time, but Fright Night came out a month after, and was gone in a single month.

Now, First Men in the Moon is probably more desirable with Harryhausen fans than either of those two Sinbad films, and so will sell more quickly, but it's also 5000 copies, which may extend its life a bit.

I'm going to wait with Journey and First Men until either a low quantity alert crops up, or I can use them as qualifying titles in a signed promo (whichever comes first).

Yes, I'm a big Harryhausen fan myself. I ordered both the Sinbad films day one, as I will do with these two releases. Oddly, it didn't seem that long to me with those two films. Thanks. I missed Journey the first time around, as I did with Mysterious Island. I wish I knew whether they had plans to rerelease this latter film. I have considered buying the Spanish release, but have concerns that it may be a BD-R like many of Resen's discs. I'm not sure if anyone knows for sure on that.
