Thank you for clarifying Mark.
That is precisely what I'm referencing. As Mark's screencaps make their way around the web, some people will use them as evidence of further compression problems on TT releases, when they're not evidence of that at all. Those disseminating screencaps have a responsibility to make sure they're accurate, or at least come with a disclaimer (which I'm happy to see Mark has done elsewhere). The two further caps Mark has posted both have the same problems. |

With this release, it looks as if I'll be quite satisfied. |

Mark I appreciate the time you take to grab screenshots, but could you grab a lossless one? Without any compression?
Maybe check the settings in your software and grab a lossless png one? (i think the size of the screenshot should be over 1 MB) If I were TT I wouldn't like these screenshots to be out there, because they make the Bluray look quite bad... There is pixelation and macroblocking (or whatever that is called) all over. (I hope you aren't offended by my post, just a friendly advice. ![]() |

But someone who sees this and doesn't know that it comes from compression, could judge quickly and think this release is bad. |

Was about to point out the same thing last night in the other thread he had posted it in.

Yeah, that picture has some major aliasing along the dress lines. No way that's how it actually looks. I've already ordered it but I'll wait for Caps-A-Holic to post some pics so I can compare the change.

As an alternative, I am currently ripping the main feature to my Mac's hard drive and I'll then use a different method to crab a couple of screenshots. The contrast and color still won't be accurate (it's a stupid Mac OS thing, which is quite complicated), but I should be able to put up some screenshots WITHOUT JPEG compression artifacts. Give me a little while. Mark |

Everyone,
I have DELETED the screenshot comparisons I posted last night. My capture method created pixelation in the screen shot due to heavy compression. It's better to just delete them and not cause confusion. Sorry about that. I am working on a different method for capturing screenshots and I plan to share the results sometime today. Mark |

I already posted at Home Theater Forum to update the situation.
Okay, I've pulled three screen shots from the 2015 Blu-ray that correspond with the 2012 Blu-ray screenshots from the Blu-ray.com review of the older disc. Two of the scenes are off by about a single frame, but I think everyone will agree that it's close enough for government work. This time I saved my screenshots as lossless TIFFs. But, unfortunately, the screen shot comparison website does not accept TIFFs. So I converted them (in Photoshop with ZERO editing or enhancement) to PNGs. They are still pretty big files, so the screenshot comparisons take a bit of time to load. Also, since these were done on a Mac, the image is slightly darker (lower contrast) and a slightly different color space (to my eyes, slightly more blue) than what I'm seeing on my big HDTV. It's just one of the stupid and annoying idiosyncrasies of the Mac. Again, there are three different scenes here (#1, #2 and #3). After the images are loaded, you move your mouse cursor over the image to compare screen shots. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp...6122/picture:0 The 2015 restoration is heads and shoulders above the 2012 release! In motion, it is quite stunning for a film that is almost as old as me! ![]() Mark |

Here are some random screen shots taken from the 2015 Blu-ray (4K restoration). These were also saved as lossless TIFFs and converted to PNGs in Photoshop. They are large files (about 2MB each).
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Again, done on a Mac so color and contrast are slightly different than what I see on my HDTV with standalone Blu-ray player. Mark |

I don't use CC online nor have a paypal account, so how else can I order The First Men In The Moon? I'd really like to have this.
