For what it's worth, the email from Screen Archives Entertainment includes the following description:

"APRIL LOVE (1957)
Video: 1080p High Definition / 2.35:1
Audio: English 5.1 DTS-HD MA
Subtitles: English SDH
Isolated Score Track by Alfred Newman and Cyril Mockridge / Songs by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster
3000 Edition! $29.95"

It's probably just an accidental omission, but some official clarity would be nice.

That was incorrect on SAE's part.

TT say on their facebook about April Love:
Quote:
Unfortunately, Fox has no subtitle file on this film -- we always include them when the studio has them, but there is little we can do when they don't

Dang! I'm still looking forward to seeing the film, but that is definitely a letdown. I'm glad that TT releases almost always have subtitles. On a related note, I was shocked that Fever Pitch and The Firm didn't have them, despite the rough accents, slang, and existence of subtitles on the Region B releases. Go figure.

Thanks for letting us know, though!

The sale price doesn't reflect much about how well the title has sold, beyond the fact that it's the only title released in 2015 that's in the sale. With the exception of the titles that have been on the low-quantity list for the last couple of months, which are priced at only $5 off, all of the sale titles are priced at $10 off. Since Bandit Queen, along with most of the British films released by TT, is list-priced at $24.95, the sale price is $14.95.

I like foreign films and I am sure I will enjoy this . I really was not even aware TT had released this until the sale was announced . I always thought TT could benefit from having more non US releases...will they sell? That is the question.

wow, i just randomly made an impulse buy of 5 titles the other day, completely unaware that 3 of those titles would be reduced $10 each for the promo sale. i sent an e-mail asking if there's any way i could get a credit back on those items. otherwise, i'll return and re-order them... anyone have any experience w/ SAE's customer service in regard to this type of situation?

I can recommend The Roots of Heaven. The story kind of meanders all over the place, but it's beautifully shot and typically Huston, dripping with quixotic manliness. Plus, it's got Africa in CinemaScope and color, the luscious Juliette Greco, and Orson Welles getting shot in the ass. What more could you want? Seriously, if you enjoy Huston's other manly adventures, you'll enjoy this one.

Given their history, I wouldn't count on them doing anything. They will probably tell you to return it and reorder.

Have they shipped those titles? If the order is pending, ask Ed for a cancellation.

But grain and noise are not the same thing. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of grain overexposure/underexposure. This is natural as light, for instance, can be captured in a variety of different ways.

On the current transfer everything is covered by a thick layer of noise, which is why definition and depth are so problematic. The film should have an entirely different appearance on Blu-ray

Pro-B
It is a shame the TT edition of Audrey Rose is disappointing. It does seem too light and scenes seem too open. The DVD was darker and had better saturation. It's sad this master got the shaft.

Well, they can have a look and pay someone to do some (but that's expensive).

nah, titles are shipped. expected delivery tomorrow. if i don't hear back from SAE by the weekend, i'll just return/re-order.

i even told them i'd accept a credit toward a future purchase (3 titles at $10 each adds up to a free title)...

But how would they even keep track of such a thing? A sticky note would only stay on the wall for so long, it could get lost, etc. I just don't see a way.

I was certainly surprised how big and extensive the list is. I will certainly be getting some, but a couple of the ones I wanted, like Breaking Away aren't on the list. I'll have to sit down this weekend and figure out what I can budget.

Thanks for all the recommendations from people here about the more obscure titles like Bandit Queen and When the Wind Blows. They've been added to my considerations. Anyone have anything to say about Resurrected? I've liked Greengrass' later work, like the Bourne movies and Green Zone, but this seems like a rather different style movie and not entirely up my alley.

That would be the simplest for everyone, even if your "credit" was only "good for purchases of X dollars or more." It encourages you to spend more money with them. I sent a message on FB, hopefully they'll be understanding of recent purchasers.

Anyone know what their return policy on unopened BDs is? I can't find it on the site.

RE: pre-orders holding up in-stock orders

I couldn't find the text I was confident that I'd see on there site, recommending placing separate orders. There it is on the Zardoz pre-order page:

Quote:
PLEASE NOTE: This item has a planned release date of April 14, 2015 and is only available for PRE-ORDER at this time.
1. Orders are not shipped until complete. If you wish to receive in-stock items prior to pre-ordered items, you must place separate orders.

What do you guys recommend, "Bunny lake is Missing" or "Man Hunt" if you could only choose one?

Are there here people from Europe who have ordered from SAE in the past ? I'd like to know if there is any risk of getting caught by customs, and if there is a real need to pay the extra $15 to get a tracking number ?
