Good stuff! I was hoping there weren't as many titles that I wanted (I overspent during the b'day sale) but count me in for 7 out of the 10!

Excited about the Samuel Fuller. I had underrated that film based on one VHS viewing years ago; but recently I saw it on the big screen, and it's actually rather amazing. Not my favorite Fuller--Crimson Kimono's tops in my book--but it's a strong film with a great look and great locations from one of the most interesting filmmakers.

Looks like I can take a break until September. That's a good thing with all the movies I've pre ordered. I might get Summer Lovers. There's a lot of eye candy if I remember correctly

After big months in May and June, where I'll be purchasing 3 new TT titles in each month, I see only one title in both July and August (The Fabulous Baker Boys and House of Bamboo) that I'll be purchasing. No complaints... a slow month or two allows me to catch up on other titles elsewhere, as I think there are 6 Kino Lorber titles scheduled for July release that I want!

I was flipping through channels several years ago and came across this scene from World of Henry Orient. Needless to say, I stopped everything I was doing and watched the rest of it.

[Show spoiler]

(Fast forward like 55 seconds in)

This is one of the greatest musical humor scenes ever, partly because it seems to have been created by people who actually knew something about concertos. The rest of the movie doesn't even come close to being as funny, but this scene is pure gold.

This is a kind of MAD MEN before there was the MAD MEN from the women's perspective. It's now dated, of course, but still interesting as a time capsule, and it has great NYC locations. This is the only title announced I'm going to want right away, and I hope they get Diane Baker back for a commentary. I think she's about the only cast member still alive, though it would really be something if Nick Redman got her AND Robert Evans together to talk about it. That would be one hell of a commentary track, and I've forgotten it already has a good commentary track on DVD that could be ported over too.

Excellent film with a truly transcendent ending. That and House of Bamboo - which with its great locations and early CinemaScope should look amazing on Blu - are the standouts for me.

I've seen Places in the Heart many times over the years, but have always agreed with Ebert that the subplot with the brother-in-law is a total waste of time and the famous ending isn't earned. He really nailed it with that review. The main characters are so great and it's so disappointing that the movie would rather spend time with Amy Madigan and Ed Harris.

And I just picked up the Fox DVD of House of Bamboo, too. I'm on the fence about upgrading. Definitely in for A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy and The World of Henry Orient. The Allen film isn't his best, but it has a good ensemble cast and it's Allen's affectionate homage to Smiles of a Summer Night, which is my favorite Bergman film. I remember TWoHO as a warm-hearted comedy where Sellers doesn't go over the top with slapstick silliness and it also features the lovely Paula Prentiss, although the story is really told from the point of view of the two young girls.

This is par for the course for me. Usually each month has one title I really want and one or two that are maybes.

House of Bamboo....woo hoo!

The extent to which this kicks some serious tail cannot be overstated. I can retire my Fox Film Noir DVD of that movie soon.

My pulse is also quickened by Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? and Summer Lovers.
