Is this something that people think is a possibility for Twilight Time?
I don't know much about all the who owns what rights etc, and the likelihood of this movie getting a major release. It isn't very old, came out in like 2006.
I think it would look fantastic on Blu, and would love to see Twilight Time do it.
I wish. I absolutely love the movie and don't understand the hate. One of the few dvds I still own.

"Sales are sales.", but when buyers can't find a classic like Singin' in the Rain in their local big boxes, that's a significant sea change in how catalogue titles are getting distributed. In fact, most of our local retail outlets have become so unreliable for catalogue titles, I don't even bother dropping by on street date anymore. Increasingly, by the time the few catalogue titles that do go retail begin hitting store shelves, I not only have the movie via online pre-order, but have already watched it! And I probably paid significantly less to boot.
I was disappointed during the first week of release when no local big chain stores carried this title. I'm Pleased that Fry's electronics finally released the single disc version this past Friday here in CA for a sale price of 7.99.

By that point tama, I'd already seen Singin' in the Rain...twice.

The big boxes aren't my first stop anymore; they're my last resort.

Did a back to back with American in Paris last night. Now I just need to place an order for Cover Girl. Will do that this week.

wonder when SAE will announce the next titles?
seems like they are more behind than they have been in the past.
C'mon SAE what's coming next??
inquiring minds need to know.
The Chase or King Rat would be great choices imo.

I seriously doubt I'll buy Steel Magnolias, but that is a nice cover.

Minneapolis’ Mill Creek Entertainment has licensed 250 titles from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for DVD and Blu-ray Disc distribution in the United States and Canada.

The deal covers everything from the “Hostel” and “Hollow Man” franchises to classics such as Ship of Fools, Bonjour Tristesse, The Last Detail, Avalon, The Chase and Agnes of God. Many of the titles will see their first-ever Blu-ray release.

It is nice PowellPressburger, but I still don't understand why TT jumped on this title...either in terms of its rarity, or filmmaking cachet. Perhaps I missed something the first time around, but Steel Magnolias just struck me as a standard "Oscar gimme" project...although admittedly, I haven't seen it since its original theatrical release. Maybe it will play better the second time around.

On the other hand, the cover for Sound and the Fury strangely reminds me of the typical design and layout of those vintage Dell 4-Color Movie Classic comics from the same era. Intentional? In any case, very evocative of the period, and better yet, a film I've never seen. Of the two September releases, this one is my most anticipated, funky cover and all.

well my streak of owning all the TT titles will be coming to an end with those titles because I won't be getting The Sound and the Fury. I have studied the novel many times, and have no desire to see Fox's highly bastardized version. There is a reason why this title is so rare as far as home video goes--it is a pathetic attempt at bringing Faulkner's masterpiece to screen and imo is best left forgotten. For those people that are looking forward to the bd because of a particular affection for the novel prepare to be extremely disappointed.
If you just want to see a film loosely based on the novel, it may perhaps satisfy--not sure.

I tend to make all kinds of allowances for screen adaptations from classic literature Arkadin. Something has to be pretty bad to not only completely miss the author's point but also fail to play as a movie. Case in point: TT's recent release of The Wayward Bus, which wasn't unvarnished Steinbeck by a long shot, but still fascinating and rewarding on its own as a movie.

I have no way of knowing if that will be the case with The Sound and the Fury; I've never seen it. But I'm not put off by some of the hoo-hah to negative reviews, including your own comments. I mean, in its day, this was an A-List picture directed by Martin Ritt, with a terrific cast (any excuse for more Joanne Woodward is fine by me), which also included the legendary Ethel Waters in a supporting role plus some rare uncredited cameos...not to forget its cult appeal score by Alex North.

So although you might be right that this version pales compared to the Faulkner source - I might very well end up eating these words - sight unseen, The Sound and the Fury is a genuine movie curiosity that piques my interest, especially after having been MIA for so many decades.

I'm game...

My streak of buying all their titles ended with HIGH TIME. I'm not paying top-dollar for STEEL MAGNOLIAS either and I'm very iffy on BYE BYE BIRDIE and THE SOUND AND THE FURY. For us in the UK, this has been a terrible year for importing, what with a raise in VAT, the lowering of importation allowance and the demise of planetaxel - can't afford to blind buy at those prices.

I will be getting NOTLD and ENEMY MINE though.

The cover for Steel Magnolias...... eh. But that's ok... some covers are better than others... some are really good... some are not so good. All I care about is PQ and AQ. If the cover is cool, that's just icing on the cake. When Lawrence of Arabia is released.. I would buy it if it came wrapped in a brown paper sack. LOA, of course does have a nice looking package.. but I think you understand. Just my opinon.

Also, like most of you, I have really... really enjoyed Twlight Times releases. I am very grateful that we are getting some very good films that we may not have had otherwise.

I like that cover for Steel Magnolias. Not so much on the booklet. That looks cheap compared to elegance of the cover. Maybe it's just me.
It's also hard to believe Steel Magnolias is 23 years old.
