I don't believe in the practice myself but I wouldn't call it sleazy. From their point of view it's a good economic decision. What would be funny is reporting there are only 40 copies of Equus left and see if someone gets stuck with the 40 copies

Lately, I just wait til it shows 49-ish (just below 50) then purchase a single copy if I want it. Looks like this 'reseller' is going to ruin that for me.
![]() Even if it is a title that has taken years to sell out, I wish they'd still put a limit on number of copies purchased when it reaches 50. BBB was selling a few copies a day, and would have sold out anyways, maybe a week later. Last edited by Brian81; 05-06-2015 at 02:07 PM. |

I don't understand the "brinkmanship game" of waiting until they're almost sold out to order. If you want the film, order it; don't wait for some external event to "force" you to pull the trigger.
Who knows, SAE may have arrangements with resellers who hold off on purchasing until they hit a low limit. I know a watch maker who did this, I wanted qty:2 of a limited edition, he hadn't stipulated a limit, but asked me to wait a few weeks until all other orders were in, then he told me he could grant my extra purchase. Very nice of him. |

Because that money could be used for something else. I do not need to have it right away, so why buy it now if I can do so two years later. Especially when I get around to my 'all time favorites' only once a year or every other year. |

On the other hand, what I think ChromeJob is getting at is: why wait until the very last minute? During the birthday sale, my priority was making sure that I grabbed all of the titles (but one) on the Low Quantity Alert list, even though most of them were still in the 200-500 range. Hard Times was low enough (below 150 copies) that it wasn't offered at a sale price, but I ordered it anyway, so I could be sure of getting a copy. So, at the moment, there are only two LQA titles I don't have. One is the Thunderbirds double feature, which I'm just not interested in. The other is the added-post-sale Sleepless in Seattle, which I'm waffling on. I don't feel like I need to own it, though my wife would probably like it. But even then, she's satisfied enough with the DVD. As I've said before when people express concern about some title possibly selling out: getting it as soon as possible, if nothing else, will give you peace of mind. |

It occurs to me that the resellers are probably using the cart trick, too. As soon as a title reaches 49 or less, they pounce. As others have pointed out, if it's a title you really want, "don't miss it, don't even be late."

When was that though? If they said it this year, than okay, but if it was two years ago, uhhh maybe a change of heart. I mean how many times have I heard oh they're never going to re-release anything, oh they're never going to have a sale, oh they're never going to have another sale, etc.............. BTW, it's not like I'm stating that TT putting out a new NOTLD 1990 is fact, I just have some kind of gut feeling that it could happen if they were given a non-blue tinted version.

Sometimes you need an external force when you're sitting on the fence about a title. For me it was The Blue Max, a blind buy that I had been thinking about for some time but didn't order until I saw the low quantity alert and also needed something to make the last signed promo limit. Even now I'm still not completely sure about it, a visual feast and brilliant music score but some reviews say the plot is somewhat silly. Guess I'll find out next week when it comes
