Yes. I'm planning to hit Absolute Beginners, Mississippi Mermaid, and The Young Lions. I may not be able to hit them until a few hours after the pre-sale goes live, though, so I hope that none of them sell out quickly. These aren't cult classics or highly sought-after horror/sci-fi titles, but there's no telling what goes through people's brains these days, and these may sell faster that I expect.

Ohh don't worry those are not selling out for a long time, believe me.

Mississipi Mermaid might go kind of quick and by that I mean a few months but I would def say you are safe on the other two.

Watched Jane Eyre and enjoyed it . Really liked the noir look to the film...Wells def played a part in the making of the film, not officially credited or recognized .

Bandit Queen is another story, watched the entire thing but doubt I will ever see it again. Frankly, not very well done imo. The whole movie is basically
[Show spoiler]one rape fest...either raping or trying to rape Poohan. The bandits just go on one rampage in a little dinky town, nothing interesting nor did I find myself caring for any of the characters (but little Poohan).

Welles' influence as uncredited associate producer was largely getting technicians he'd worked with before onto the film, but he had nothing to do with the actual direction: that was all Stevenson. A lot of the shots that people think are obviously Orson Welles ones are similar to things Stevenson had done in earlier films, but because he ended his career working for Disney people always tend to downplay his contribution and regard him as a journeyman.

From an interview in This is Orson Welles:

Quote:
Welles: I didn't come around behind the camera and direct it. Certainly I did a lot more than a producer ought to, but Stevenson didn't mind that. And I don't want to take credit away from him, all of which he deserves. It was an impossible situation for him, because the basic setup is wrong if an actor is also a producer - it shouldn't happen. In fact, we got along very well, and there was no trouble.

Peter Bogdanovich: Had you ever wanted to direct Jane Eyre?

Welles: No. Not my kind of picture. I was delighted to act in it, and very happy to do it, but I would never have chosen it. I think if I had a chance of directing sixty movies, Jane Eyre wouldn't be one of them.
During the shoot Welles was more preoccupied with trying to finish It's All True, even requesting a Moviola as part of his contract so he could edit the film between scenes.

I would be amazed if we see any sell-outs this week. There are a couple titles I'm interested in, but I can wait.

Speaking of sell-outs, I'm surprised at no low quantity updates lately. Zardoz is sure to sell out someday, but I'm not quite sure that Journey to the Center of the Earth or First Men on the Moon will, at least not for awhile. They've been on the top 10 for quite some time, so I am guessing they have sold somewhere around 2k whereas we know Zardoz is above 3k.

Glad to hear you loved it! It's definitely a wacky movie but as you said it's fun.

Yeah, it's not at all likely. Based on the last LQA list, The Blue Max is the closest to sell-out, and it was still listed as under 300. I doubt it's below 250 yet, even after a couple of promo offers. Everything else on the LQA list was listed at below 500. JttCotE, FMitM, and Zardoz will probably drop steadily, but I still don't think they'll sell out for a while. There's nothing else in their upcoming announcements that have the cachet of a quick sell-out.

When it comes to the Sony owned titles, it's really up to Sony to rescue any of their films as part of their ongoing (and generally impressive) remastering program. But unless Sony does it on their own there's little TT can do about it.

Of those three, I bet Absolute Beginners has the highest chance of selling out (sooner) but I don't think these ones will sell out anywhere near street-date.

I loved the previous Truffaut/Woolrich 'The Bride Wore Black' so will probably put Mississippi Mermaid on my blind buy list just on the strength of that alone

Any thoughts on if Absolute Beginners is worth a blind buy? I am a huge David Bowie fan but usually hate musicals. I haven't seen it available anywhere to rent or stream . . .

It's also got Patsy Kensit, who was quite a doll circa the late 1980s when I was in high school. She also starred in Lethal Weapon 2 with Mel Gibson, and that's how most of us here on these shores know her.

Patsy Kensit also played the young daughter of Christopher Plummer and Lesley-Anne down in HANOVER STREET (if i remember correctly, this was Harrison Ford's first movie after STAR WARS).

No, not a blind buy! While it offers one of the most colorful, energetic and vibrant opening sequences I've ever seen, this one is definitely an acquired taste. Bowie has a great cameo number, though.

She was quite a prolific child star in the 70s. She was even in the Great Gatsby. But as mentioned above, I also first noticed her (and how) in Lethal Weapon 2, followed by Blame it on the Bellboy.

Incidentally, I think Heroes was Harrison Ford's first film after Star Wars.
