The 1966 remake was a Hammer production.... I was talking about the 1940 original.

Not sure why. The context was with respect to Harryhausen. He worked on the 1966 version, not the 1940.

Oh. That one's titled One Million BC, no "Years" in the title. Did that even get a DVD release? I saw it on TCM once several years ago but haven't seen it mentioned since.

Sounds like you're talking about closed-captioning, but in any event the answer is no, usually white letters without a box

I just ordered To Sir, With Love.

This is one of those titles that I wanted to order a few months back, but it fell by the wayside on the priority list when a bunch of other discs were released around the same time. I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger, since nothing is up for me to order from SAE with the next batch, and since I might be changing addresses next month.

Any comments from fans of this movie?

Is that your guess, because that's a week later than normal?

Good choice....this is a wonderful feel-good movie with an amazing ensemble cast of young British actors and Poitier brilliant as always

I agree with docc's comments. This is a movie that I fondly remember from way back when. The big draw for me is (easily) Sidney Poitier's performance (... as is the case in most of the movies he appears in).

Ugh, why is TT so bad with subs on foreign language films?!

It's not just foreign language films. They don't have subtitles for Ken Loach films, which is technically English, but might as well be foreign language. They are unwatchable to me.

They use whatever the studio gives them, which oftentimes is nothing. I found it amusing when I watched their (reissued) release of Journey to the Center of the Earth, and the subtitle file was the same as the one from Fox's 2003 DVD. The subtitles on both spell the name of the Icelandic volcano "Sneffels Yocul" instead of its proper name "Snæfellsjökull" (even the funky vowels aside, it was obviously done phonetically).

In fact, one of his films...I think it was Riff-Raff...was the first English-language film that was released theatrically in the US with subtitles because the working-class accents were virtually impossible to understand.

Artisan's seeming policy of never including subtitles (or even closed captioning) on their DVDs seriously pissed me off a couple of times because the thick accents of the characters were difficult to understand: Terrence Stamp in The Limey (whose accent was so unintelligible that a joke was made of the fact in the dialogue in one scene) and Bob Hoskins in Felicia's Journey.

I recently sought out, and found, actress Patricia Gozzi. After receiving permission to do so I mailed out a package to her and I received it all back today. This was one of the items I sent and got back (I posted everything at the link below too)...

I will defend TT to some degree about the subtitles and agree with the above posters that they work with the subtitles they are given. I even reached out to them about the Loach films after finding out they are practically useless to me, and it was what the distributor gave them (Film Four I think).

That said, they probably shouldn't release British titles with strong accents without subtitles to an American market. Even Fever Pitch was a challenge.
