It's odd that they have to fix the color timing and the edit isn't it? I mean I thought they were using a brand new master. That edit be present anyway right?

You're welcome. I hadn't seen it before getting the disc and was expecting something schmaltzy and mawkish, but it's a surprisingly intelligent and layered film. And Price has a great final scene.

Although the November pre-order date has not been announced yet, it is unlikely to be on Oct 14. For many months now, pre-orders have been on the last Wednesday of the month. TT will announce the November pre-order date at the same time they release the first cover art for that month.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that its been two months already. I suppose either this coming Saturday or the one after.

Unrelated, but I wish the booklet image for YORGA was the cover, and the cover the booklet image.

Earlier this evening, I watched my Twilight Time Blu-ray of John Huston's Fat City.

I thought that Huston's The Misfits was a depressing flick, but it has been squarely dethroned by Fat City. This film gives a deeper glimpse into the world of lost souls than anything else that I've seen in recent memory, and it's also one of the most dreary cinematic depictions of alcoholism that I've seen. This movie really reminds me of the drunks that I've been around in real life more than any other movie, that's for sure. One bar scene with Stacy Keach and Susan Tyrrell pretty much breaks my heart.

"Where's your old man?"
"In jail."
"Jail? What for?"
"Because they won't leave you alone in this world, that's why."

There's an ultra-realistic flow to the dialogue in this movie that really puts us into people's heads. Keach is the closest to a main character, but Jeff Bridges also steps up to the plate as a young and potentially up-and-coming boxer with a "soft center."

Candy Clark, whom I adore in The Man Who Fell to Earth, Blue Thunder, Q, Amityville 3-D, and The Blob (1988), has her debut movie role here.

The look of the Blu-ray is spectacular, thanks to the 4K restoration. That said, Fat City is not a sparklingly gorgeous Technicolor flick by any stretch. This is a drab 1970s affair through and through.

I do not get why many fans refer to Fat City as a "neo-noir." I do not see the noir semblance at all. Fat City is dark, but I don't think of it as noir darkness.

I won't say that Fat City is a fun movie, but there's enjoyment to be had in watching how convincing the actors allow themselves to be in such downbeat roles. This movie really is like Billy Joel's "Piano Man" song come to life, and it's fascinating in that offbeat sort of way.

The commentary track, with Lem Dobbs and Nick Redman, cracks me up, because, at one point, they talk about how an interracial relationship in the film is so much more realistic than the "liberal phoniness" of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. These guys certainly don't oversell the Twilight Time titles. Haha.

And poor Julie Kirgo has to clench her teeth and write glowing essays on every single Twilight Time release.

Is there a way to track the sales of TT items? As in how many units are left.

I'd love to order Black Widow and wanted to order alongside Vampires, to get a cheaper postage. Since TT or SAE have moved Vampires to prevent anyone taking advantage of this (no of course there is a valid reason, honest).

Could I track how many Black Widows are available nearer the time of Vampires preorder?

I can picture her now, staring down glumly at a blank notepad, tapping her unused pen impatiently against its spine, and sighing heavily as Save Your Legs! blares away on the TV.

No worries, there will be plenty of Black Widows left on Vampires day

There's no way to tell how many copies are left on a given title until Twilight Time releases a Low Quantity Alert list that has that title on it. A title typically goes on the LQA list once it hits 500 copies left.

There's something called the "cart trick" that used to work on SAE's site. Basically, you would put some ridiculous number of copies of a title in your cart, and you get a message saying that there are only X number of copies left. These days, it only works when the number of copies left drops below 50. And now that TT is selling things from their own site, it would only show how many copies are available at SAE.

today is the day for pre-orders for 4 of the October titles.
Vampires has been delayed slightly, as per post above.
(although vampires pre-order is mistakenly still listed for today, as well as a separate listing for the new date; today's listing needs to be deleted by OP)

Today's a big one.

I've already got State of Grace, Mississippi Burning, and Night of the Generals in the cart, and I plan to order Scream and Scream Again, Devil in a Blue Dress, Black Widow, and Strange Invaders.

I'm actually still on the fence about Night of the Generals, but it seems like the sort of film that I'll get into.

Yeah, a solid slate for TT in October . Count Yorga, Vampires, Scream and Scream Again, and Strange Invaders. I want all of those. Vampires would be my most wanted as my son loves vampire movies. Yeah, Count Yorga is a vampire too but "old school" . Good stuff.
