Between this sale and the Kino sale a few months back, I am never ordering anything new again unless it is in the immediate danger of becoming OOP.

Not seeing it mentioned too much, so probably not for a bit yet. Pretty much a day one for me.

What I'd really like is to see a legitimate release of the 1956 version with Edmund O'Brien, but doesn't seem like that's ever going to happen...

Before Dirty Harry he was "The Man With No Name." After Dirty Harry, he was Clint. I think the fact that Eastwood was the fourth or fifth person offered the role of Harry Callahan tells you how big his star was before then.

Yes, there is a risk to Nineteen Eighty-Four selling out. The only question is how long it will take to do so. I don't imagine it'll sell out in less than two months, and probably a few months more than that.

Despite it having both soundtracks, I think the fact that 1984 has already been released in a few territories could slow it down.

That's what I figured. I was more worried about Mysterious Island - just because it already sold out. Though I know it took quite awhile, and also the new pressing is 5000 units - so I guess even that one should be safe for a good long while.

I guess I can wait for 1984, until I can build up my next order (I do that to save on shipping), but i'll have to keep an eye on it. Especially considering it's only 3000 units.

I was very excited about it, I haven't pre-ordered in a long time, but this was one I had to make sure to order as soon as it went live!

The Detective is much darker than the Tony Rome films for sure, but man those are enjoyable. When Twilight Time announced The Detective, I asked them about the Tony Rome films and they hinted, in their usual coy fashion, that they would be releasing those some time in the future.

It's not just that there was no "Do you feel lucky, punk?" moment or that Audie Murphy was cast as Scorpio. Harry was an ageing cop nearing retirement who liked playing street chess with old Jewish guys and who got all the dirty jobs because he didn't want to make waves and lose his pension - he's basically just a bag man in the script, something the trade ads emphasised:

Harry doesn't even take out Scorpio in the airplane hijack finale - a police sniper does it while Harry lures him to look out a plane window. The style of the film was going to be semi-documentary, with Kershner planning to shoot the street scenes with hidden cameras. And that was the version that John Wayne also passed on when Sinatra dropped out, yet a lot of people still think Wayne and Sinatra were offered exactly the film that Don Siegel made, even though that was completely reworked the moment Eastwood signed.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd LOVE to see that alternate universe version of Dirty Harry.

Mysterious Island (Encore Edition) is 3,000 units.

Looking at TT's track record with the Harryhausen Columbia/Sony cannon I would venture to guess the odds are excellent that these two films will see Blu-ray release within the next 12 months. I also think "Valley of Gwangi" will get the nod from Warner Bros. based on their resent "Special Effects" release.

I sure hope so. Gulliver and OMYBC, I think, are pretty safe bets from TT at some point. I'm hoping Gwangi will be out soon as well but the color timing on TVoG is messed up. I hope Warner will feel it's worth the money and effort to correct. We have 12 of the 15 Harryhausen movies on BD. It would be a darn shame if we don't get the final 3.

Is Mississippi Mermaid worth picking up if I liked The Bride Wore Black?

Yes, though it's a different kind of film but quite fascinating in the way it evolves as the plot twists and turns. It starts out as a romance, then quickly turns into a mystery/revenge thriller that doesn't always work as well as it should - the first half of the film certainly shows up Truffaut's weaknesses as a traditional thriller director, with moments like the ring that doesn't fit feeling a bit muffed and he misses a lot of obvious opportunities for suspense. But once the 'lovers' are reunited and it takes a left turn into a bizarre out of synch amour fou where they take turns to be the one in love with the one who wants to kill them in a very unhealthy relationship, its perverse fascination works strikingly well.

Just went to SAE to place an order for Nineteen Eighty-Four and noticed A Man for All Seasons is no longer available. Was hoping to pick it up at the promo price. However, it is available direct from TT at the regular price. To those much more familiar with SAE, do they re-stock from TT? Thanks.

Good Question perhaps someone can ask on Facebook to see. I doubt it is SOLD OUT, hopefully they just need more stock. Which leads to another question that they may be only selling certain qtys of each title during the sale Maybe?

Interesting thing is I had A Man for All Seasons on my wish list and it is gone from that list also...

A Man For All Seasons is still available via Twilight Time.

It may that SAE no longer wants to honor their sale price on that title...

That would be my guess, especially if it's disappearing from wish lists. Thing is, it wasn't listed in their bigger sellers of the sale items, so maybe they didn't have that many left ("House of Bamboo", "Emperor of the North", "10 to Midnight", "Fat City" and "First Men in the Moon" are the ones in their "Top Sellers of the Week" list).

If that's the case, it makes me wonder how many they have in stock of certain titles. I may have to place my second order a little earlier than I planned on to grab those sale titles that are selling briskly.

Mysterious Island has moved to #1 on the SAE top ten list and First Men in the Moon is #10. The latter might sell out soon with this sale so it might be a good idea to jump on that one now.
