Do you have the Canadian release of the movie? That's one without the Atmos audio track I believe. If that is what you have, perhaps the disc manufacturing process or the transfer itself is slightly different from the US edition?

Both Midway and Knives Out froze my 9000 on the exact spots reported by everyone else. This isn’t an isolated incident. Something about Lionsgates 100gb discs and DV trips up the Panny. When watching in HDR10, no freezing occurs.

It could also be a bad batch of discs. Has anyone tried it on a different player brand?

Just finished watching Knives Out UHD on my Oppo 203 and no issues, it played flawlessly.

My copy of Knives Out briefly froze after the 2-hr. mark, right at the dang climax of the movie! I have a Sony 800m2.

Well it's isolated to these two releases, actually. I don't have Knives Out or Midway yet, but I haven't had any problems with Lionsgate's earlier 100GB DV discs.

Are you on the most current firmware? The reason I ask is I recently bought the x800m2 and saw some people posting about not updating to the most recent firmware as it was causing playback issues. I have not updated my player yet and so far have had no issues. I have both of these titles and Knives Out played flawlessly. I’m going to have to try Midway as I haven’t watched it yet.

Guess we'll know more when the next Lionsgate 100GB release comes out.

It's a bad batch, it must be pretty big lot because there are reports about the freezes on discs bought at Best Buy, Target and Amazon at the very least. Given the fact that an 820 user said that his Canadian release had no issues, this seems to be narrowing down to something in the creation and/or mass duplication of the discs that have been released to the US market.

Here’s more disc shenanigans. Couple guys on another forum had Midway freeze at the posted freeze times on their Pannys. But the same disc played flawlessly on their lx500s. There’s a noggin knocker for ya. Like Rhode Island. Neither a road nor an island. Discuss.

I'm current as of a few weeks ago. KO is the only disc that's given me any trouble on the 800m2 so far, and it only lasted for about a second.

I know this is the wrong thread, but it's germane to the conversation about Knives Out playback issues on the Panny.

I'll be getting the HMV First Edition of Knives Out. I'll report back if my Panny has any issue with those.

I’ve had the Panny UB700 for ages, hooked up to my LG OLED B7. Love it and never had a problem.

I’m not as clued up with the technical side of things as I’m probably should be but....
In your opinion (many experts on here ) would I benefit from upgrading to the UB820 in your opinion. Obviously I’d be able to view Dolby vision with my discs as my ub700 only does HDR10. But with my panel (OLED B7) am I really going to see a big difference?

I have an LG C7 OLED TV and a Panny 820. On some movies, DV will look better than HDR10. I generally prefer DV but there are some HDR10s that look better to me and give me more flexibility when it comes to video settings. The 820 has dropped to $450 so if you can afford it I'd say go for it and get the best out of both formats, especially with the 820's HDR Optimizer doing its thing on many (but not al) HDR10s. Even with the current problem with two Lionsgate DV releases, with Oppo out the picture, the 820 outclasses any of its competitors.

My Oppo-203 plays both Midway and Knives Out DV with no problems as well.

BTW, the Oppo-205 is now selling for anywhere from $3500 to over $5000! Amazon has a new Oppo-203 for $2500. There's only one left so for all of you who missed the Oppo boat, this is your big chance

I have the feeling that Panasonic players, except for the flagship model, don't feature very good disc drives.
It's a pitty my 420 disc drive fails to read the third layer of an UHD BD 100 GB disc as its video processing is outstanding. It's a great budget product with top performance messed up by its subpar quality disc drive.

Well there's so few consumer products using the drives, innovation and refinement is thus virtually non existent at present. I'm going to bring those pesky consoles up again, because once they start getting drives made for them in the millions. Thus the dedicated players start to benefit.

Yeah, it will be nice when the ps5 is released.

I still prefer my old PS3 for a blu ray player... I'm still amazed to put in a disc I haven't seen for a decade, and it asks me if I wan't to resume... It is fast, infinite disc memory, and EASY to repair. As soon as I see any disc hiccups I've just ordered a replacement assembly and fixed it.
