Maybe Panny still makes players but when they fail to keep the firmware up to date, they "ain't" supporting their players.
“Some”? I thought there are only two.

1995 Ghost in the Shell's DV output has a perceptible 'flicker' on Pannysonics, as well as the freezing on Midway and Knives Out.

Oh. Thanks for the info. So 3 titles so far then? I don’t have the faith that Panasonic will fix it.

I'm happy people are still lobbying to get these issues fixed. I gave up after they concluded a year of 'investigating' the issue with this:

"Kindly be informed that since Dolby Vision is a newer technology implemented with the latest firmware udpates, Due to this some incompatibility might be present in regards to displaying certain shows when also connected to other third party devices as this unit has been firstly developed for HDR10 usage."

Well, if a Panasonic can't play it, then I don't know what can. Also, it is recommended that you connect the player directly to both your display and sound device to ensure the best possible video quality. The display connection requires an HDMI 2.0 or later cable but for the sound device connection, you may use one of your existing HDMI 1.3 or later cables. Connecting only to your sound device and then connecting your sound device to your display may result in the sound device "doing things" to the video signal, even if it can "pass through" 4K HDR10+ and/or Dolby Vision video.

Farmageddon has problems in DV as well. IIRC you've just ordered a copy, so that's worth checking.

Your TV is probably considered a "third party device".

Reading these issues I’m wondering if it would make sense to return my 820 and get the ubk90 and save $200

I picked up one of the UB820's shortly after getting my PS5 and wanting a standalone player. Was a big Blu-ray fan from day 1 and still have my Oppo BD player, but this was my first go with 4k UHD.

I've had no issues with playback yet from any of probably about 50 I've watched out of the ~170 I own, other than one rather significant issue... and I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced the same or if I should contact Panasonic while I still have warranty...

Every time the player shuts off or goes to sleep, I have to hit eject and close to get it to read the disc, otherwise it says disc read error.

It's a weird issue that only happens under that context so far. I've never put a disc in and had it tell me that, nor have I had any playback issues or failures otherwise, so far.

Any input is appreciated!

Im running a 7.1.4 setup (7 stage 1 sub 4 atmos) not sure if I have that surround setup listed correctly but you get the idea. I appreciate any help.
Anyone want to please share their picture setup? I have an 85 inch SonyX900H in the man cave/movie room. Im loving this player although i will say that the Sony uhd player i have has never once had a skip through a movie. The other night watching a brand new disc (green book) I had that digital matrix deal show up in spots for about a minute and then it cleared up and went away. I did a quick rewind job and it played back the same scenes just fine. Not sure what that was about but I didn't enjoy it. I know its work to send someone your settings but I really would appreciate it if someone could point me to a certain post on here or just send me your settings in a pm. Appreciate it. I promise to not continue asking for settings in this thread. Don't want to make you guys frustrated at me. Have a good one!

Settings for your 900H or the Panasonic player?

My Panasonic settings, I have most settings on default/auto...except I output at 4:2:2. I enable HDR Optimizer and set it to OLED (you would set yours to the default middle/high luminance). Don't forget you have to enable it while playing an HDR10 movie.

Yeah the player. I appreciate it. The optimizer is a little confusing as is the light, dark settings etc. We have a panny OLED in the living room though. So Its possible I add another one of these players at some point. Don't watch alot of tv in the Living room but it does happen.

I probably wouldn't go that far. Even with a handful of problematic DV titles, I still think the 820/9000 are the best players on the market. I had a UBK90 that I had nothing but problems with. Maybe I was just unlucky, but aside from that, the LG unit is completely barebones in regards to settings/features. And Panny's HDR Optimizer is a really nice feature to have.

You might not need the optimizer, but it would depend on the 900H's tonemapping. That TV doesn't get THAT bright, so you'll need to experiment to see which gets you the best results...but you'll need to test with movies/scenes that are far above 1000 nits to make it easier to compare when flipping on/off.

Not sure if this is true or not??? But if it is, wanted to let the community know ASAP ....my dealer told me Panasonic is ceasing production on bluray players.

I was going to buy the player regardless if he told me this or not, so no reason to lie.

Sure hope it is not true (OPPO, Samsung)
