I mentioned the backlight as an easy way to differentiate it from the shite regular remote but basically I MUCH prefer the layout of the bigger remote. I had one of the cheapy plastic zappers with my BDT310 and I even prefer that to the current plastic jobbies because the layout of the buttons is better.

It is, it's one of the plastic cheapies with a great big NETFLIX button between the menu buttons, it's far too easy to hit the wrong button as I'm someone who does use those things when navigating to a certain point on a disc.

I think I'll grab one of ze german 424's, they're a good bit cheaper than the UK 420 at the moment (about £212 delivered vs £250) which is a retailer exclusive to Currys so there's little chance of that price coming down any time soon.

Since I've been sharing some of my findings from testing my UB820 sample and communications with Panasonic I thought it would be nice to post this chart and accompanying statement that came with the image.
"The UB820 is equipped with a 4K High Precision Chroma Processing, which is our new original 4K-ready engine incorporating technologies cultivated by the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL), our R&D base for high-image-quality Blu-ray. Decoded 4K (4:2:0) signals are interpolated* by original multi-tap processing to 4:4:4 to achieve clear, natural, three-dimensional 4K images." |

Not sure you'll see any over-sharpening, but it should not be an issue anyway as you set the chroma sampling as you like, e.g. 4.2.0, 4.2.2 or 4.4.4 for BD discs and IP streaming.
Panasonic has a long history of being the best in video processing and that goes for Panasonic's Hollywood division, TV Broadcast professional business and their high-end consumer video products. Many users say the predecessor UB900 BD player delivers the best image performance of all BD players and Panasonic OLED TVs are also considered the best, due to the processing. I think this is an area where everyone wins! |

On a separate note, they also broke 480i playback on their UHD players as well. Any word on whether that's been fixed for this latest generation? |

If you care about 480i or other media, get a OPPO, if you want the best Blu-ray/UHD image, get a Panny. Want DV now get a OPPO. |

Thats true, but they are available in Canada though. Panasonic recently has always sold to UK and like, and EU before the products make it to the states. Panasonic TV's got kinda chastised out of USA store chains with the demise of selling plasma too long.
