If the ps5 had HDR optimizer and subtitle controls as good, I'd gladly jump ship... One thing the PlayStation is unparalleled at is disc resume memory. Infinite.

Thanks @Geoff D and @sapiendut for the explanations. For DVD's that are anamorphic widescreen (according to the backcover) I don't have this issue. At least I know it's not a faulty unit.

Have one other issue and that is with the movie Sicario 2 in 4K (UK import). The video is output in Dolby Vision and from what I have found, this movie only should have HDR10. With other HDR10 movies the video output is correct. Anyone knows if the UK edition of Sicario 2 has Dolby Vision?

@sidjoesz If I'm not mistaken with Sicario 2, the only known 4K Blu-ray release with Dolby Vision is the German version from Studiocanal. The rest of the 4K Blu-rays releases worldwide are just HDR10 only.

Should work the same way as purchasing from any online vendor. There will be a window for you to input a shipping address if you do not have a set up paypal account yet (Mandatory in todays world ) Available from other vendors but Value Electronics will save you tax if you are not a NY resident.

Even with Dolby Vision I'd stick to the US Sony or UK Lionsgate, that uses the same encode as the Sony disc, than any compression done by StudioCanal.

I think this member is outside the US. Do not know if Value Electronics can ship out of country. Can you comment on your location? Perhaps Robert will see these posts and clarify.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Panasonic & have used their players for decades. I’m interested in this 820 model.

Does it support HDMI 2.1? It’s possible my next Tv might be 8K.

No on the HDMI 2.1. Perhaps in 2020 players.
Although there are no 8K players in the BDA roadmap for discs.

Just 4K players for the foreseeable future. Full 2.1 chips won’t really be necessary, just some parts like eArc which are being implemented in some 2.0b enhanced installs.

PS5 8K
Disc probably not.

8K upscaling support, probably.

Yes, as I said, anamorphic widescreen DVDs are flagged so that the player knows it's supposed to be played back in 16:9. Non-anamorphic widescreen though, Panny didn't give a shit, when all they had to do was carry over the zoom mode from their previous Uniphier builds.

Most likely 1% of people that have old DVD titles that were released only in 4:3 or 4:3 letterboxed. I still have some old DVD titles that were never released on anamorphic DVD and no Blu-ray release.

My last non-anamorphic DVD was the Elite DVD of The Terminator and that was about 5 years ago. And the reason I kept on to it was because of the mono audio.

On DVD both Spartacus and Enemy of the State were released non-anamorphic as another example.

Clearly, otherwise matey wouldn't have posted in this thread. Just me and him, keeping the non-anamorphic flame alive! I've still got several like Abyss, The Thing, The Terminator, Conan the Librarian theatrical cut, Star Trek VI.

Those two titles are disgraceful. "They are doomed for a new 8K scan on 4K Blu-ray". ...Meaning @ least on Blu, and The Abyss in 3D Blu.
What are they waiting for, the end of Endgame's second run? ...Or after Avatar 2's release?

But those are available on Blu, to upgrade.

* Now, how many Blus in your collection that are 1080i?
