Hello all,

I've had this player for a few days, quick question:
Basically all video/hdr settings are disabled when viewing a DV disk ?

Is it just me or both photos are identical?

Still need to go choose medium luminance LCD in advance menu
You then need to put a disc with HDR10, go to Option and turn on HDR Optimizer
Exit out then press HDR Optimizer on the remote and turn on yet another HDR optimizer option to Normal/Standard (I can’t remember excatly the name)

Hello all,

Anyone heard if the 820 is going to get an update for the Disney + app? I don't have a roku, etc, I was hoping my player would get it.

Thanks in advance to anyone with some info.

I haven't heard any mention of Panasonic yet, so it's still a mystery. The best I have seen is "on all major platforms...except Amazon/FireTV". But they list Apple, Android devices and TV...but nothing detailed like what disc players. It doesn't sound likely, since everything seems to be geared towards separate standalone streaming devices or built in TV. Since Panasonic isn't a TV player here, they are probably left out..

Has anyone had any luck getting the Android App to work with Panasonic's 4K players? I just can't get it to find a device.

Very tempted to place an order for the 820. I currently have a 203 but been thinking of having a backup player connected to my setup. I've seen open box units for around $379

So does the 820 NOT stream 1080p at 24fps?

I was watching Wonder Woman (2017) and within 2 hours in the movie there was a slight layer change freeze, the ub820 timer froze up, and the remote stop sending commands to the unit, but the movie kept on playing. The same thing happened as well in The Man of Steel. Is this a common issue with the earlier 4K movies from Warner Bros with the ub820?

Excellent player, but not without several quirks. AFAIK it doesn't output streams in 24p but does 60p instead.

And don't mention that it can't play files over USB with lossless/HQ Dolby and DTS formats, it'll play the video but not the audio and is a quite deliberate restriction from Panasonic.

I've decided to pick up a 820 (824 over here) in addition to my Oppo. My old man has been dropping hints about maybe getting a 4K player so I figured I can send him my UB424 that i've been using with my JVC. He doesn't play a lot of media so that should do him fine with his current set up.

How good is this player? Had the Sony X700 for a bit and it was glitchy as all get it. Immediately returned it.

Just want a really solid Dolby Vision player. Other than the cinema, have only been able to play DV via my Apple TV 4K and it’s been wonderful but feels like DV on disc is the final frontier for me at this point.

For $350, is it worth?

Yes. It’s the best player out there under $500.

Not sure if this is the correct spot to ask this question, but I've noticed Paramount UHDs having an issue with this player and my current setup: Sony STR-1080 receiver and X900F TV, hooked up by Monoprice 115428 Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cables.

I'll get a picture but no sound if I boot up the player and already had the TV and receiver on prior doing something else. Things like menu sounds work, but the movie and those studio-logos don't have sound.

I have to turn off everything, wait a couple seconds for the receiver to fully shut down, and then start it back up again, to finally get the proper sound. It's a headache and also a bit unnerving every time it happens.

I've seen it so far do this for Star Trek (2009) and It's a Wonderful Life.

So, I'm not sure if it's the player not sending the correct code for hand-shaking with the receiver, or if it's purely just how Paramount has been encoding their discs. I've yet to see this behavior with WB, Fox, Universal or Sony titles - they all perform flawlessly.

Any insight if this issue has been discussed before? Is it a player specific issue, manufacturing or what else could be the problem?
