I will post updates if something new arises (that I could share) also if new firmware is released, check its content for improvements we've been discussing.

Hulu isn't available on the Panny machines though??? It's just Youtube, Netflix, and Prime Video. It's best to use TV or a streaming box for that anyway.

Panasonic just sent me the first mass production UB9000P1K. We'll have them for sale by the end of August.

The only upgrade is a new 2-channel DAC from ESS as the factory AKM that made the original DAC was destroyed in a fire. The signal to noise specs are slightly better on the new ESS DAC, but from my limited testing I did not hear any easily noticeable difference with the few CDs I played.

It's version 1.68, but don't get excited as most if not all of the update is to manage the new ESS DAC.

Give me a list of things you want me to test and I'll post my findings.

When using Dolby Vision, the Knives Out 4K disc freezes up a bit after the 2 hour mark. I believe it's 2:01:24, to be exact.

If you have that disc and could test that, it would be greatly appreciated.

This freeze only occurs in Dolby Vision, but happens every time at that spot.

Good that there is a new model coming but I don't see the need to upgrade my UB9000. I to wish there would be a new firmware update for this model and the new model coming in August.

If you can check if there is the functionality to add external subtitles?

That's excellent initiative stmhlm!

I know it's too late now, but one significant issue document doesn't mention, is that UTF-8 font that's used for displaying subtitles supplied externally, misses many text characters which appear in some languages. e.g. I'm Polish, and you cannot see most of polish diacritic marks (as "ąęźż"), they appear as squares on screen. This makes this feature hardly usable for Polish users.

I'd love to see a fix to that issue.

It's not a new model. It's just that due to the AKM chip no longer being available (at least for a considerable amount of time), they needed to implement a new DAC chip in the design in order to continue manufacturing these players.

This is what I want to know too. I hope they finally fix it and send the firmware to us 820/9000 users.
