I would love to share you the setup guide video I created but some people think I’m shilling for doing so.

I got my open box 9000 from Woot today and it looks pretty good. There are some fingerprints on the top of the player, but I'm assuming it is still barely used since most retailers have a 30 day return policy. Just to confirm, the only difference between the UB9000 and the newest one is the DACs, right? The picture quality and everything should be the same, correct? If so, I will return my new 9000P1K and keep this open box one for cheaper

That is correct. I have the old and the new versions of UB9000. While they sound different when I A/B them, I don’t have a preference between one and the other. Everything else is 100% identical.
Don’t forget to follow the setup guide as per the link in my signature. |

This is kind of random and just for fun:
For 2022 in Japan, Panasonic is releasing the DMR-ZR1 which is basically a UB9000 with a 6TB HDD and DVR functionality. It includes 6 tuners for Japanese broadcast TV including 3 4K compatible tuners. I believe that it can record 3 4K broadcasts at once. It can also backup recorded TV shows to Blu-ray since the drive is writable (standard only not UHD afaik) List price is roughly $3500 (the UB9000’s current street price is over $2k in Japan, and the Panasonic UB820 isn’t sold at all there from what I’ve seen) https://panasonic.jp/diga/products/zr1.html Last edited by cicada88; 12-25-2021 at 06:30 PM. |

I also just got the 820 and set it up recently. I’ve mostly been playing around with the video settings, but today I started noticing a lip sync issue on the Star Wars Ep 1 2011 blu-ray. Looking online I see this was a common issue for the player. I’ll have to watch and test more blu-rays and UHD discs.
I guess this is because I’m using one HDMI for Video only and a second for Audio only? I’m guessing if I use the Video port HDMI for both Video+Audio without any use of the Audio HDMI port then the issue will go away, but I’m not willing to do that yet. I also have 4K 60p off with 24p on Auto. I guess the audio delay setting is what is needed or AV sync for the TV and AVR? |

So my 820 arrived the other day and I have not put it into my rack yet. It hums something awful once it is powered on. The humming is from the fan but my goodness is it annoying and so strange that it stays on even during initial setup. I also came across a new issue while backing up or moving forward. I have taken some video of it....you'll have to crank the volume. This cannot be normal for a $500 player. Perhaps I am spoiled due to owning a 203.
Any suggestions or should it go back? Does it make sense to just get the 9000 at this point. ![]() |

The mk2 has a new DAC from AKM to ESS. The switch was due to a fire at one of the factories so they had to find a replacement. Other than that...the player is identical to the mk1.
