Nah. I had the 203 and compared it very closely with the UB9000. After spending quite a long time comparing them both on my projector setup, I sold my 203 and keep the 9000 instead.

It’s not a replacement, per se, but my OPPO did need to be serviced after very low use which was disappointing. I wanted a second 4K player for another room and the 820 seemed to be a decent option. Crazy that the UB820 came out in 2018 and still has no successor.

There really isn't a need for Panasonic to spend money on building a new player as it does everything it needs to from their perspective. Yes, they could improve on things from ours, but it does what they think is enough.

If you use the 4:4:4 as mentioned in my video and also use the HDR Optimizer, you should definitely see a noticeable difference between the two. Most people don’t actually set the player properly so they can’t see the difference. This is simply they don’t use the superior chroma upsampler and/or the HDR Optimizer (they thought the do but haven’t actually run it)

The assumption that 4:2:0 is enough is actually false. At 4:2:0, it is at the lowest commom denominator. The upsampling from 4:2:0 back to 4:4:4 requires math and interpretation. While the math can be the same, the interpretation may be different. And that what makes the most difference.
However, TVs like many Samsungs I have calibrated, they don’t do the 4:4:4 upsampling properly and the CUE is very visible. |

Didn’t know that. Hopefully they sprung for a top tier ESS because as a general rule AKM>ESS.

As I mentioned earlier. I own both versions. They merely sound different from each other. I don’t have a preference between the two although on paper the new UB9000 should sound better.

Out of curiosity, exactly what does the bad DVD deinterlacing look like on Panasonic UHD players? Does it look like bob deinterlacing (CRT-like flicker), discard deinterlacing (jagged edges at half the frame rate), or weave deinterlacing (constant combing)? Also, does it affect all DVDs (including movies with progressive 3:2 pulldown) or just DVDs that are known to be interlaced (i.e. TV show DVDs).
I plan on getting a Panasonic UHD player since my parents bought a new TV, but the reports on its bad DVD deinterlacing had me slightly concerned, so I thought I'd ask if anyone could describe what it looked like in more detail. |

Ultra HD Blu-ray discs can hold much more data than standard Blu-ray discs, so they can deliver full 4K resolution along with enhanced color and contrast. 4K Blu-ray produces the sharpest, most textured picture quality I've seen on a 4K screen. Most notably, the format offers superior compression, color, and audio quality. Compared to 4K streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray presents video and audio content with far less compression. This means you'll get a more stable image with no drops in quality.
