Basic = 500 nits
Medium/High = 1000 nits
OLED = 1000 nits
Super High = 1500 nits

As chip says, leave most things on Auto

Hmm... I always used OLED since that's what I have.

You're saying I should probably use Super High?

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried to play burned BDs or UHDs on the UB820? If so, do they play without any issues? Also, I am curious if the HDR optimizer would work on a burned UHD. For movies that are only available in 4K on digital, I do like to burn them to a disc and would love to be able to use the HDR optimizer on those.

I have one BD-R at home (Nosferatu 100th Anniversary). I can try it.

I have many downloaded movies and complete Blu-ray backups on BD-R and BD-R DL. They work perfectly fine, no issues, as long as the burn quality is fine of course. If the burn quality is iffy, the layer break can sometimes cause a problem. It is quite sensitive in that regard.
The HDR Optimiser works the same, whether it's from a regular 4K Blu-ray or from a BD-R or BD-R DL, as long as the movie has HDR10 of course.

Thanks for the info! What program/method would you recommend for burning discs? Any tips or tricks?

I have burned around 50 copies of discs I have bought that doesn't have finnish subtitles. The process is quite slow and I just don't want to go that route anymore - please someone release a player with a nice and easy external subtitles feature!!! I find it unbelievable that a title like John Wick chapter 4 will not have a release containing finnish subtitles However, DVDFab is a great piece of software for making a copy of your disc and adding subtitles to it. Of course, you will lose menu and extras, since you have to do a "movie only" type of a copy. If you have a computer with NVidia display adapter (ampere or better for higher quality (b-frames)), that will speed up the process and the whole movie can be transcoded in something like 15-20 minutes. I had to use my son's gaming computer for this after finding out that instead of something like 20 hours the conversion can be made in like 15 minutes

Under the finnish laws, I could sell the original discs after making the copies, but I still hold hope for a player that would let me select subtitles from external (or internal) storage instead of having to move an usb-media back and forth between the player and computer.

Well, high quality BD-R DLs and low speed (2x) burning has always worked perfectly... so far. At higher speeds (6x) it usually works fine as well, but sometimes it doesn't, so... I'd rather wait a little longer for the burning to finish, than getting disturbed during a movie.

And regarding adding subtitles to a movie, I do that too (Dutch in my case). But I never transcode. I use tsMuxeR to add them losslessly, complete with menu's and all!

Bit easier to get a Zidoo (or similar) and watch MKVs there instead. The subtitle options on mine leave nothing to be desired, compared to making them in tSfUxEr

Why don’t you just use MakeMKV and buy a Zidoo (or similar) to watch the movies on?

Because I would need to buy hdd also. Of course, since I have the discs, only one hdd would be sufficient, no need for parity.

Hmm... The Zidoo Z9X (which is capable of playing Dolby Vision MKV?) seems to be much cheaper than I thought, 209€. This might make me rethink my approach...

Storage space is pretty cheap. I put a 2.5" drive in my Z1000 Pro to make sure it wouldn't be noisy. I don't have the money nor the facilities for a proper NAS, but they're not required anyway to use one of these players.

I just ran into my first playback issue on the Panasonic 820. It seems to be at a specific point on the Synapse 4K of Tenebrae. just after the 15 minute mark just after Anne (Daria Nicolodi) arrives. I watched this previously on the Sony w/ no issue. There doesn't seem to be any way to correct it other than skipping ahead a bit. grr...

I still had my 820 when I watched Tenebrae 4K a couple of weeks back. Did not experience this.

I have the UK Arrow release thou, so it's not exactly the same release, but as I know, they should be the same.

I'm not sure, it does happen at the very exact spot each time. So, I'm assuming it is disc related. Since I bought it when it first came out, doubt Synapse would replace the disc for me. I wind up missing about 42 seconds after hitting skip and it resumes as they are entering the apartment. So, basically miss the introduction of a character and seeing the reveal of the suitcase contents in the trunk of the car.

Still annoying. No harm in reaching out and asking them.

Has anyone done the Rattlebyte mod can tell me what harness I would need for the 820? I also don't see any spots where the wires would solder...

I'm debating either trying the mod or just buying a pre-modded 820 or 9000 and selling my existing 820.

Have you downloaded the fitting instructions? The solder pads are clearly visible in the left of the picture near the BD drive. You also need to remove the front display board. You don't actually need a harness but if you use one it's the open ended harness.
