I will send a video of the issue to Panasonic though, hopefully they can fix it in an update. The Sony x800 has no issues with it.
I have an issue with a Blue Underground UHD disc also...different title though. What contact info are you going to use to get a hold of Panasonic?

I did order the disc drive unit at one point but it was secretly not in stock with a lead time of over 6 months so I cancelled that order.

I am considering either sending it for repairs or ordering a replacement drive. It's kind of a drag replacing the drive as it's a known problem that will come back. My UB420 did the same thing eventually. I watch a lot of discs.

(It's a little tempting to make the tray just completely manual by adding a thumb tack to the front to grip and taking out the gearing inside. ... but I guess I don't want to redesign the thing.)

Edit - I dismantled the drive unit and cleaned the belt for the tray motor and the gears look to be in good shape. It works again maybe i should order a drive because I have no idea how long it will be ok.
Did you notice if the gears were greased adequately. Next time you open it you may want to check the condition of the grease. If it’s dried up clean it off and reapply some grease that’s labeled safe for plastic. Also maybe swap out the belt for the door mechanism but not sure how easy it is to gain access. Hate to see a UB9000 become useless for something as dumb as its tray not functioning. Good luck.

Vincent Teoh just reviewed an AR glasses that connects via USBC and ?HDMI(needs confirmation on specs sheet). It wpuld be nice connecting these glasses and watching 3D blu rays via ub820/9000 or any blu ray player.

There is talk about resurgence of 3D tvs. It would be exciting to see this happen

3d is still dead on arrival as long as you need to wear anything for it imo

The glasses were never a problem, it was the onslaught of lazy conversions that gave 3D a bad rep. Theaters trying to save energy and not projecting them properly didn't help matters either, certainly wasn't a great showcase of the format.

I had, and still have, a Sony 3D tv and the light passive glasses were not a problem... Unless you happen to have eyeglasses.

I cleaned the belt and didn't see any grease. I think one of the teeth on the underside of the tray itself was chipped but not badly.

I just ordered a replacement drive and will see if it's really "in stock" this time. Last time I ordered they said I would get it in over 6 months.

The player works now but there is as I said a damaged gear and it will be nice to have not only a new drive but some replacement parts on hand via the old drive.

I also will keep my UB150 though it has a undeserved bad reputation in my opinion. The UB150 will be a back up player. I watch a ton of discs and with the non stop greed of streaming services I'm only going to be watching discs more often.

EDIT - I was already charged for the replacement drive hopefully this time it really does ship soon.

-Brian

But it's January so there's quite a lot of 2024 left.

Don't new products tend to arrive in the Fall generally?

Yes, but manufacturers tend to announce at large trade shows. There has been nothing said yet about new player models.

How many large trade shows have happened so far this year?

I for one don't know of any new players but I suspect it will happen in time. I have 3 UHD BD players that all work fine so I don't know that new players are needed.

The active 3D on the Shout release is pretty great on that one.

I'd watch it every year in 3D if I could.

Arrrow’s Witness has terrible DolbyVision Lag on the Panasonics. Halloween 3 from Shout has a little bit that I noticed. Both are fine in HDR.

My take on 3D is it doesn’t work well in the home unless one has a very large screen. I’m talking projector sized 100-inch+ screen. 3D on a typical flat panel just made the screen look smaller. I still spin up a 3D movie to watch on projector system occasionally.

Very odd. We watched Witness with DV on my Oppo 203 Sony 4K rig, everything was fine.
