If you're still having issues after the reset, I'd suggest plugging your player into your display to remove the SONY from troubleshooting.
Not sure if this could be an issue, but check your player's HDMI settings, I think your AVR is HDMI 1.3? not sure if that could be an issue. |

I received a Panasonic DP-UB820EBK. It came with a UK plug, the question is if I can use a European plug instead? The cable is detached from the player and I have a European cable? On the device it says 220v - 240v, which is compatible with what we have (unlike the US)?

Has anyone ever tested many UK 88 Films/Eureka Blu rays with the remote region trick? I wanted to grab some like Magic Crystal and some Jackie Chan discs, don't wanna get burned if they don't actually work.

Switching it to A the 88 Films discs stayed locked when I tried the Top Menu trick, tried on 3 of them(Dragon Fist, Dragon's Forever, Dragon Lord) 88 Films seems to be in the same boat for the US as Shout Factory is for the UK, can't cheat it Eureka on the other hand did work, City Hunter, Project A and Project A part 2 all jumped to the main menu after backing out of the region warning and doing the double click Top Menu trick I may moan about Blu-ray not having automatic region changing like DVD but you don't get to do tests like this otherwise. |

The tray on my UB820 has decided to stop working. I've unplugged the unit and reset, which did fix the issue for a few weeks, but now the tray has gone back to not responding, and resetting hasn't worked. However, it will still play the "Cheers" Season 1 disc it is now holding hostage. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, do you have any advice? Thanks!

Hope you like watching Cheers. (kidding) There is a trick to unlock the door manually from the bottom with a switch, I haven't had to do it but maybe someone can chime in. |

For example, on stock firmware we will not be able to press the stop button on the region lock screen on Sony disc so we cannot use trick, with disabled PUO we can press stop... and than press TOP menu. |

Also, I tried the trick yesterday to bypass Paramount's long pre-menu information and this created an issue where the player wasn't showing the movie's timestamp bar anymore or letting me change HDR settings. Had to go back to the main menu and start the disc again and let it go through all the messages organically to get those back. |

I find the UB9000 so frustrating at times... tried to play the first 4K disc from the recent Criterion Apu Trilogy release and cannot get the disc to read. No fingerprints, no scratches, current firmware, disc plays perfect in my PS5, no issues.
I've had numerous discs give me a hard time and I have to clean the discs to a mirror finish as it doesn't seem to like even the slightest of finger prints but this one just won't play for me. I'm venting more than anything here as I don't think there is really anything to be done about it. |

I have a Sony's X800M2 player moded region free and planning to buy Panasonic UB9000 for 4K UHD use. Is it any good compared to X800M2? I have a couple of triple layer discs giving me a trouble while watching with X800M2, particularly The Godfather disc in the limited edition collector's set. It refused to load the menus and play when I chose Finnish from the top menu, but worked if I chose English. Then it froze and pixelated during a layer change in the middle of the movie. I've read that these Sony players can be tricky with three layer discs. Is this Panasonic model any better in this regard? I read that Panasonic's PQ isn't very good with DVD's, but I would use it only for 4K UHD and leave region coded blu-ray's and dvd's to my region free Sony. Thanks for any advice and info.

Criterion press in Mexico, their pressing sucks hard in that factory. I have had mirror perfect looking discs not play, try a replacement and it does. The Panny will not play an imperfect disc as well as most other players, that's why if it runs on the Panny it will run on anything most likely.

Why didn’t you send the unit in to be serviced or exchanged?

I would ALWAYS have a back up means of watching movies if one thing or another fails. You may regret selling the player. Also, I don't use Plex since it has a problem with Dolby Vision playback (an error with the color space being reproduced) and I need proper DV reproduction. I have a 4k HDR projector, but with particular HDFury devices, you can still get Dolby Vision through an RGB "tunneling" trick and a false EDID sent to a Dolby Vision capable device. The display thinks it is receiving a perfectly viable 12 bit HDR (in other words, HDR12 rather than HDR10) signal and the DV playback device does all the dynamic HDR metadata tone mapping internally for the display as it thinks it is talking to a Low Latency DV display. Streamed, disc, or MKV Dolby Vision visibly looks a lot better than HDR10 material. For the price of an HDFury, I now have a Dolby Vision projector. ![]() I'm currently using a base Zidoo Pro with external hard drive storage for my MKV backups. There is also no need to transcode with the Zidoo or Dune boxes. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 03-29-2024 at 02:42 AM. |
