If you use official panasonic firmware you would lose the region free capability.

The built-in update feature in the rattlebyte firmware does not download official firmware - the download url has been modified so it is safe to use.

They claim it's from 220 electronics, not RattleByte.

Does this new FW only fix LG TV problems or does it fix other issues as well? I've had no disc issues on my 9000 on 1.76.

No region free player can be updated with official firmware without losing the region free capability. 220 usually use the rattlebyte mod in these players.

That's what 220 claim on their website. Surely they would've gotten plenty of complaints otherwise.

Yes but it is not official firmware - the update will come from Rattlebytes server. Official firmware comes from Panasonic.

Yes I agree. I just sent them a message and asked what can be done to update or if updating via download/USB will harm the system. Being able to update was one reason for me to consider buying from them.

220 previously advised that the player can be updated but the update must be over the internet, not by USB:

Yes I am aware of that. I asked 220 if that might be another option since I keep getting that my current firmware(1.76) is the most current. Not sure if I might be missing something to be able to update over internet. Thanks for the link.

The Dolby Vision issue is not limited to LG TVs, supposedly any display which have EDID containing values above 1199 nits could benefit from the update but that is just me guessing.
No one really knows what fixes/enhancements Panasonic includes in the firmware updates, they just say "Playability of Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc™".
Given the version number difference, it could be 6 fixes/enhancements in 1.82 from 1.76 if each increment equals one fix/enhancement.

Been following this thread sporadically but was not able to find what changes members here identified with this update.

Does anyone have the run down of what this changes? Trying to figure out if it's worth my contacting the company I bought this region free from for the update key since they lock it to a manual install upon request.

I have a 9000 also non-upgraded for region free that I had before I purchased another 9000 from 220 to upgrade to region free. Right now I tried my older 9000 and am having no problem upgrading firmware to 1.82 via network. It does look like maybe all are unable to do a network upgrade on the Panasonic as listed on 22o web site. Not really a good thing foe them. At least if one is unable to update due to an upgrade, they really need to let everyone know.

You will need to check the software information in the system menu to confirm if it is a rattlebyte modded unit. I had no problem upgrading my rattlebyte modded 820 over the network.

Sorry fellas. Does the new f/w fix the DV brightness fluctuations that plagues certain Kino Lorber 4K discs?

What would it say in the system info? Did you upgrade the unit yourself with Rattlebyte hardware or did you get through 220 Electronics? Thanks for the help.

Read through the copyright and license information. You should see rattlebyte mentioned if it is a rattlebyte modded unit.

Menu->Sytem Information->Software Licence

I modded my unit myself but it is believed that 220 use the rattlebyte mod.

Sadly no. I was so excited to see this update and was hopeful it would fix my Kino flickering issues, but the problem is still there.

My test disc was Monster Squad which has several quick sequences of flickering during the scene where the bullies attack Horace. Same trouble spots.

Thank you. Will take a look. I am also going to try and connect via a wire with the network connection. Maybe that will help. Thanks again.

That sucks. Pointless update for me then.
