Actual movie discs... You have any links to reports about these issues? Are only Panasonic players affected?

UB820 hooked directly into TV thru 2.1 HDMI (Highwings 8K @ 60, 48gbps). This is the same cord that works with the PS5, and I'd hope is good enough for DV even though I now see people mentioning the Monoprice cords.
did you end up fixing this? I was looking to buy some Highwings but wondering if I should stick with Monoprice

????? Anyone?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 & Inglorious Bastards 4K from Arrow UK are two problematic releases that I think only Pannys have problems with.

I had a quick look into the forum threads of both. TCM2 black screen issue is indeed related to DV as turning DV off allows proper playback. No word about different behavior between TV-led and Player-led DV.
IB issue is the one about certain extra features on the bonus disc crashing the player? There's no word about it being related to DV.

Yea, as I said (although perhaps vagely), this is not a widespread issue, but if Arrow continues to consider the problem not theirs and Panasonic says the same thing, I want to look into my options, because it's likely to happen again.

I'm not getting a new TV at this time, but when that happens, I want to already have made my ming up if I'm getting a C or G (in the case of LG).

After LG latest firmware update 23.21.20 then 23.21.21 I have black screen video dropouts playing a 4K Dolby Vision disc but only when 24p is on…if 24p is turned off then Dolby Vision works with no drops…HDR works properly regardless…any LG OLED owners experienced this on the Panasonic 820? My TV is a 77” B3…thanks

My issues only started after the new firmware updates…worked perfectly for 4 years before

It's relevant for when I decide what to buy, or what do you mean?

EDIT: If I understand it correctly. I'm gonna need a G model for that kind of peak luminance.
I can confirm the menu does display on the LG G4 (and the Sony A95L).

Is anyone getting blacked out menus on some discs? (Using an LG G3 set to TV led DV). I also have subtitles on non English movies that fluctuate between white and black.

Yes, I and several others do. Search for my posts in this thread... Switching the DV settings of the player to Mode 2, i.e. LLDV (aka Player-led DV), is a work-around for those cases.

I ordered a BD from Amazon that was marked region ABC. When I try playing it in my UB820 (US region), I get the region mismatch error. "Should" this work, or is the disc marked incorrectly?

Is there any downside to keeping it in Mode 2?

I haven't used my 820 in a couple of weeks, so this may have already been discussed...if so, my apologies (read the last two pages).

I fired up my player yesterday and showed a new firmware available. I don't know anything about details of the change log, but wanted to pass it along.

Unrelated note, watched "Run Lola Run" UHD release. Looks great and sounds even better. A really immersive soundtrack. Highly recommended.

This depends on how good or bad the tonemapping of your TV is. From the limited amount I've read about it, STD-DV (TV-led) is in general considered superior as the TV should know best how to tonemap according to its own capabilities.

Is there any way to keep LFE in the downmixed PCM stereo? I'm feeding my headphone amp via optical but bass is not that deep so I'm assuming LFE is not downmixed

Something I've been wondering...

How much, if any, additional wear am I introducing to the player if I pause a disc for a while (get up from the couch to go make a sandwich, say) or FF through an entire film (which I do with every new 4K that comes in the door, as they're so prone to issues)?

nothing more than playing the disc. it simply adds hours to the runtime
