I did not do that to my own 820 when I saw the pixelization since I had a short time with it watching Titanic. Double verified watching the same scene on my 9000 played without issues.
Oh yeah totally, these players have way more than their fair share of reportedly faulty hardware. I'm just suspect of whatever binary input/output criteria trips the "DRV NG" status message if/when there are otherwise no noticable, detectable, or even recorded errors.

And thanks for the help!

Np! Also try these two.

Code:
[4][2] Drive Last Error Display
[6][5] Quick analysis error history.
DRV NG = Loaded drive failures occurred within 4 weeks DRV OK = Loaded drive failures occurred more than 4 weeks OK = No error history NODATA = No information

I've yet to have the fan kick on, even after running an entire 2+ hour film. On some discs, it can get quite scorching to the touch on the back right near the fan. Any luck with turning wi-fi off making a difference?

Thanks. For Drive Last Error Display I get, in sequence
Code:
NO 0
230717
031100
150102
BDROM
A80A43
For Quick Analysis Error History I just get "NODATA".

Unfortunately Google doesn't give me any useful results.

I still haven't quite figured out how to turn the wi-fi off. The thing is the player is slightly warm, but it was powered off for several hours. Would've thought it be cool to the touch before starting. I was looking the menu, but can't find anything as simple as say: "wi-fi off/on." My theory is the reason for it being slightly warm is the player taking in or trying take in stuff from the wi-fi or something to that nature.

You have change the connection mode from wireless to wired to turn off wi-fi. Also if you're concerned about power consumption when the unit is off, number one setting to disable is Quick Start.

Actually, you may be on to something. I disabled wi-fi by turning it on wired and played a disc for about 30 minutes, and it didn't get the least bit warm.

Yes, I did it just a few minutes ago and turned off the quick start too. Now the player feels cool to the touch when off.

Here's an explanation of why a turn off player isn't off.

Very helpful info. Is this from the service manual? Is it available electronically somewhere or only through Panasonic? So far no issues with my ub9000, but good info to have tucked away.

Got it. Would keep an eye on the player just in case.

The information is from the Service Manual and only available through Panasonic if they are an authorized service center.

If I write the actual time of 15 seconds will you feel better ?

UB9000

source: https://www.avforums.com/threads/pan.../post-29644884
And that's all about the "low power consumption mode" 14W vs 20W so now add to that your fan and display and if you like counting so much you will get the correct result.

In UB9000 it is turn off even when the device is turned on.

Do you like more numbers? No problem, example on

UB420:
After 30 minutes after turn on UB420 and go instant to "sleep" (Quick start), device reports actual CPU temperature 68 C (with kernel fix patches). How do I know this? I have full remote access to the device via root shell and connection is possible even if device is in "Quick start" mode... wifi is active, network is active... some system processes go to sleep and the CPU usage is zero, normally it is about ~3%.

When we turn on the device, and wait about 20 minutes the temperature drops to 57 C. Why does it drop? Because the fan will be turned on.

UB9000 (The fan only starts up initially when starting the device and in critical states):
After 1h "sleep" (Quick start) temp 57 C (with kernel fix patches)
After waking up and waiting 20 minutes temp 52 C.

These are facts, not some specifications on paper.

That's the end of me.
Most modern CPUs/GPUs can withstand 90C-100C before reaching a throttling point, and thus would not significantly degrade if they aren't reaching this point. I would not be concerned with anything below the 80C range.

Also, nearly all of these players eventually become inoperable because of laser misalignment, not any chip issue

Well, as if right on schedule, my UB820 refuses to start the Mission Impossible 4K disc. No error, no explanation, just a useless "Please wait" message which won't go away. Straight to the trash with this thing.

is there some sort of hardware/software mod that could lead the player to read full backup iso's? could be the only way to bypass freezing/glitching issues... more and more with my old UB9000

because they have Mediatek chip if memory serve... is it impossible to implement it on 820/9000?

Yes, the same as all the latest players from the Mediatek family, UB150/450 has received "new" firmware that gives it gui and features similar to Oppo/Pioneer with jb..

Does anyone here have a working file AVCHD structure for Panasonic? I would be grateful for sharing.

Score +1 for UB9000.

Like most who bought the Star Wars Saga set some of discs were damaged due to the poor packaging. But I decided test out Episode 1 before I went to bed this morning to see how the 9000 would handle it compared to Oppo. Amazingly, it play through with no problems. The spot that always had problems was just before the pod race.

I'll have to give "Willow" a spin in the player since I still yet to do replacement with Crapazon. It had problems around the Val Kilmer crossdressing scene. The disc had thumb print, which I cleaned off, but still had issues on the Oppo afterwards.
