Yeah, I don't pretend to know the exact hows or whys but whatever Arrow are doing in the authoring means that their discs usually work with this method. For what this is worth, I tried Heathers in my BDT310 set to region A and it didn't play, in fact it didn't even get to a lock screen, it just booted me back into the player menu. But when I pressed Top Menu on the remote it loaded up the disc so Heathers *should* work on a US 820 using this method.

And it's not the disk, receiver or television apparently. Because if I immediately switch the disk to my Xbox One X, everything plays normally. After that happens it takes 10 hours or more for the 203 to work normally again. Completely random how/when this happens.

All of this started around a year ago. I've cared for it like a baby, but a month ago I paused my movie and forgot to turn off the Oppo. When I came back 4 hours later the disk was on that Universal screensaver and when I hit play all of those problems were then present. Maybe it overheats itself sometimes? I don't know how it could overheat itself other times within minutes though...
Send it in to Oppo for service while you still can you could have a motherboard issue or a bad disc drive. Try to upgrade the firmware if you haven't done so. It sounds like a disc drive issue though try a lens cleaner disc maybe a piece of hair or something settled on the laser.

After owning the 820 for a few months now I must say it's the perfect player. I honestly would never buy another player without the ability to adjust the HDR eotf cruve. I am spoiled by this feature on the Panasonic. HDR movies are honestly perfect on this player.

Send it to oppo to have it fixed. Then sell it. I've own the oppo 203 before I bought the Panasonic 820. With the ability to adjust the eotf makes the 820 in a class of its own. The 820 is superior in image quality when compared to the oppo. The one and only thing that the oppo has on the Panasonic is built quality. Not saying the Panasonic bq is bad, just that the oppo is that good. But if you where that crazy about bq get the 9000. Make sure you buy from Value Electronics

So it appears these do not have IR remote input jacks, so I need to use a stick-on transmitter with my Harmony Hub. Since the front panel drops down when the tray opens, where/how do you mount the transmitter? There doesn't appear to be room under the fold-down panel, and if you stock it on the front of the panel, you may loose remote control while the tray is open.

Do these things have IP control?

Can we apply the Sony 10% credit to the $999 purchase. Thus making the UB9000 cost appx $900.
Does anybody know what 10% credit he is talking about. I really don't like my Sony X700. Would love to get the UB820.

I mounted my Harmony IR transmitter on the underside of the shelf above my 820 and it works just fine there. You can see it in the image behind the spoiler.

Granted this may not work for you or many others depending on everyone’s set up.

Tommyboy81 I think that it’s not enough for Dolby Vision, or at least it’s just at the limit. I would buy the Belkin that is well known by all Apple TV owners.

What is not enough for Dolby Vision? If you are referring to cables, as long as it is certified to 18Gbs, it will be enough for DV. You will not get higher bandwidth on the signal even if you are using HDMI 2.1 cable. The limitation being the devices connected by such cable, as they will be capable of only transmitting a maximum 18gb. You can still use the HDMI 2.1 cable but you will still be getting 18gb.

I don't think there are any Category 3 cables out yet, there weren't the last time I checked. And you certainly don't need a Ultra High Speed HDMI cable for UHD BDs.

And technically as far as I know you're not even allowed (if you're a HDMI Adopter) to mention the version number on the cable packaging (or marketing), so it might be best to avoid something with HDMI 2.1 on it!

If you're in the US just pick up a Certified Monoprice cable that suits your needs.

Yes, the 9000 sure has the build quality...

"A newly-developed drive base with a 3-dimensional, thick steel plate fixes the optical disc drive to the centre of the 2-layer chassis to reduce vibration and noise during disc rotation; while the use of a 2-layer structure with a heavy steel plate for the chassis achieves a low centre of gravity and low vibration. And thick aluminium is used on the front and side panels."

Default 2.0 to 5.1 on the UB820?

I just got the 820 and I love it so far. Just curious - does anyone know if there’s a setting on it to open up a 2.0 audio track to 5.1 (like Dolby ProLogic)? My Sony X800 has a setting that does this called DTS Neo 6 (or something like that) and I’m just wondering if the Panasonic has something similar. I’ve played around with the settings a little but I can’t really find anything.

Why not use a setting on your receiver for that? Like the movie/music presets

Unfortunately all I have is a Vizio Soundbar/Subwoofer with rear speakers. It does have a Movie/music setting that does this, but I’ve found that it makes background noise really “hissy” sounding - especially for older films.
