From AVS - MajorTendonitis BC, Canada - Panasonic DM UB 9000 anticipation thread
Just got a reply back from Panasonic. Now does this mean the USA also?

Thank you for your e-mail to our Panasonic Canada eStore (online shopping). We are sorry to advise you that Panasonic Canada Inc. is not marketing this model in Canada, and our sales group does not have any current plans on introducing it into our marketplace. In view of this, we are sorry that we cannot assist you in obtaining this model.

Why would the Panasonic be a "great solution" for those who DON'T have a home theater setup? I have a complete home theater setup and don't see a problem with owning the 820; my first Blu-ray player was a Panasonic, in fact, a DMP-BD10A...

Honestly, the 820 doesn't boast "high quality components" that are "built to last"?

I can't imagine that; I mean, I still use the company's very first BD player, a DMP-BD10A, in my bedroom setup and it's still going strong...

It's all about the audio jacks on the back of the player. The Oppo 205 has better equipped audio jacks for a home theater setup than say the 203 model. You can use the Panasonic 820 or Oppo 203 model and it will work fine with your home theater. It just depends on your audio setup.

Not a good sign for a USA release to say the least.

Yeah with Robert saying delayed to January, it now a question of necessary retailers to support it stateside. Perhaps CES 2019 will have better news, hey maybe even an another UHD player from them for this marketplace.

Panasonic USA has no relationship with how Panasonic Canada operates or which products they bring in. Panasonic US and Panasonic Canada are two separate companies with completely independent management.

A good example of this and as we all know, Panasonic Canada brings in the OLED TV for the consumer market, USA does not.

I am working very closely with Panasonic USA and HQ to bring the UB9000 into the USA. No decision at this moment, but I am optimistic and am doing everything I can to make this a good offer to HQ and Panasonic USA.

The more folks that have an interest in the UB9000 that send me an email the more likely we'll be able to bring this player into the US market.

My bad wording. Built to last in tech years not calendar years. If you want more cutting edge tech go with a reference player which can keep you from the upgrade bug. I would choose the LX because of it's ability to play SACDs and DVD-A discs, better DACs, shielding (it weighs 4x more than the 820), and other tech built in. I'd choose the 820 if all I wanted is a nice 4k/BD/DVD/CD player. Just my personal preference

It's a great device anyway and it works fine also for audio. Obviously if you have a powerful setup you can fully enjoy it with a dac. UB 820 is a great choice and my opinion is that it's even cheap for what it offers.

Well I did a thing today.

I bought the UB820 from Best Buy. It's my birthday month and I get 10% off. Will be here Thursday.

I currently have the piece of junk Sony X700 and had nothing but problems with it. Going to get it fixed or replaced under warranty then going to sell it.

Cant wait to play with this bad boy!

Is the UB820 (Blu-ray) region free? Can anyone confirm?

See posts earlier in this thread. The UB820 will play most other BD region discs with a special sequence using the remote control. No mods needed.

See page 52, post #1040

I'd imagine it's for displays that output higher than 1,000 nits. Med/High would be around 500 to 1,000.

Thanks Geoff D. I was a bit taken aback, as it's the first player (after my Samsung, Sony and LG players). I've seen that does this.

The DB-UB9000 will be released in Australia mid November for $1649.00 Australian. It does not make sense. We are a much smaller market and we are getting it.
