I think I am a fan of this movie, couldn't wait for the UCE so I ordered the UK edition a while ago...

...However, yesterday I get home to this big box, and wow, was I taken aback. Even though I haven't opened, the boxset looks wonderful, as an LP boxset (sort of), sophisticated and sterile (just like the dessert)...I still have to figure out how it will fit along with the Warner boxsets. I'll post a pic of the film cell later today.

I made the mistake of ordering the box set from Deep Discount and will get this set God knows when.

I tried to pick it up at Costco earlier, but they didn't have it.

Yeah. Saw it at Costco ($57) last night and it looks like one of those thick laser disc/LP packaging. I don't know why they designed the box that way. Still waiting for my 2-disc edition; glad to know it comes with a slip.

Just waiting for my $20 Amazon gift card from Wells Fargo. The moment I receive it I will purchase the Limited Collector's Edition. So $40 something for this set would be perfect.

Depends on your love of the movie. As a huge fan, I need the box set in order to own the never-before-released deleted balcony scene. The screenwriter Robert Bolt claimed it was the finest scene he'd ever written and David Lean wanted it restored to the film in 1989. Unfortunately the original audio was lost and Jack Hawkins, one of the actors in the scene had passed away so they hired Charles Gray to redub his lines. His voice didn't match so it was left out of Lean's final cut. The original scene as scripted is very good and adds more to both Lawrence and the Allenby character.

Some had hoped they were going to restore the scene to the film proper for this release, but unfortunately studio politics prevented that from being a possibility.

Are a few minutes worth the extra $40? Maybe not for some, but it's rather important for me. Also, you get HD trailers and a few interviews, some extra vintage featurettes, and a documentary.

Just got back from attending the last of 2 screenings of 'LOA' as part of Cineplex Odeon's 'Classic Film Series' at my local multiplex here in Canada. Just a couple of observations ... as impressive as the picture quality was at this digitally-equipped theater, I'm left wondering if the picture could've even been sharper if it had a 4K projection (vs. 2K). And not altogther surprising (given the film's age), I found the soundtrack almost devoid of any low end or surround information (especially during the sequence where Lawrence's singing is echoed thruout the canyon). The front left & right effects channels however, were quite active and expansive, and expected for the scope of the film.

A pleasant surprise was the inclusion of the Martin Scorsese featurette (found on the Limited Edition BD) presented just before the start of the film. Now, I just have to ponder if I should double-dip for the 'L/E' box to keep my U.K. (2-disc) company ...

Well, yeah, depending on the price difference.

Best case here we're looking at a thirty dollar difference for the extras disc, a film cell and a book that will almost certainly wind up on a closet shelf because it won't fit anywhere else.

Although it would certainly be in good company in that closet if I decide to go with the UCE. It would be sharing space with the Ben-hur production notebook, the Casablanca luggage tags and the Casablanca coasters and I don't even remember what else.

I am anxiously awaiting the Fedex truck, carrying my Lawrence box and remastered Patton. Out for delivery. Figures. I'm home early, the wife is at a Twilight marathon 'til midnight, no one is home!

Hoping that the truck comes soon, after waiting for this day for five years these last hours are agonizing! Got the plasma fired up and ready to roll! Just need Aurens to get here already!

Picked up the 2-disc edition from Best Buy this morning for $17.99. Surprised amazon hasn't price-matched yet.

I'm not at home right now and can't help with the pictuers, but I can tell you that all four discs (3 BDs and a CD) are stored inside a regular blue plastic Blu-ray case with insert art very similar to the 2-disc version. The back includes a description of the extra supplements, and it does not have a UPC code. It has one of the hinged trays with a spot for a disc on each side so that nothing is stacked. This was a concern of mine when ordering the CE. Now I can put the traditional BD case containing all four discs on my shelf and store the big box somewhere else if I can't find room for it with my other BDs.

As for the collector box itself, others have described it better than I can, and there are unboxing videos. The set contains nothing other the the BD case with the discs, the film cell in the numbered cardboard frame, and a nice hardcover book.

I've been awaiting this release all year and now that it's out I'm afraid to buy it with it being so close to Black Friday. Do I wait the week and see if it goes on sale like Ben Hur did last year (albeit by accident) or just grab it now? I've already got a space for it on my shelves its just a matter of time before I fill it!
