I'm sure Sony's work on this will be top notch. Can't wait.

Actually, for the sake of completeness and to provide members with some insight as to how methodically this project was performed….test scans of LoA were done at the following resolutions: 2k, 4k, 6k, 8k and 11k.

It was determined that 8k was best and thusly, the chosen final scanning resolution for the project. This was a complex restoration and in case some digital restoration tools improve with time, given future advances in technology, this motion picture can always be revisited again because the raw scans are kept.

Tell the marketing team to be sure and release this title in a classy package, similar to Taxi Driver. It deserves more than a standard blue case.

I'd take a nice thick DigiBook case!

A Taxi Driver price tag would be nice too but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one

Ok, I agree with this. However, why not jazz it up too.

Yeah, I'm just kidding. I love unique and nice packaging. After this wait, tho, it better be in gorgeous packaging with immaculate video and audio and enough special features to keep me busy for a week.

I agree. I have my hopes very high. Knowing Sony, this release will certainly be impeccable.

I think we'll get some kind of deluxe packaging with a huge "50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION" banner across the top.

That banner will be there, but I'm hoping it's in a thin, cursive type set in GOLD shimmering color at the bottom..

I suppose the UK packaging will follow the Taxi Driver example (slipcover), seeing as they are both from Sony.

they'll probably release it in a digibook or something. i just hope there'll also be a standard release for those who aren't fans of digibooks or oversized packaging like myself. a slipbox would also be nice.

The good news? Per Bill Hunt's interview with Grover Crisp on Taxi Driver, LoA is getting an 8K scan; that suggests the theatrical release will be 4K in the few theaters that support it.
Sony claims they alone have sold 10,000 4K projectors (Christie also sells 4K projectors), but when you go their website, they only list 125 theatres, so it's hard to tell what the reality is.

I would be very surprised if there wasn't a super-deluxe version of this in a big box. I'm sure they'll be other versions as well, although probably not all released at the same time. A "plain" package version will probably be the last version released, up to a year after the initial release.

Lawrence of Arabia deserves deluxe packaging. I personally don't usually go for the super big boxes with all the extra junk, but I do usually take the "middle road" - either a digibook or a basic box. But for LoA, I'd probably make an exception and go for a big package, assuming that the swag wasn't stupid.

Like many roadshow productions of its time, there was a program available for LoA. It would be nice to include a copy of that. I had programs for Fantasia, LoA, West Side Story, How The West Was Won, It's A Mad World, etc., but I very stupidly discarded them in my teens. (The Fantasia one came from a small local theatre, not the roadshow presentation. I remember that one being especially nice and comprehensive.) Wish I still had them all.

Barco and NEC projector are also 4K - Sony has released content in 4K, but it's DLP that needs to kick up the bar since they have only released two movies as such: 'Battle LA' and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'

I can’t discuss pending distribution agreements, so I can’t speak to which theater chain(s), and of that, which specific venues from that chain, will exhibit LoA theatrically but, this is a good link to see which theaters in your area of the country at least have Sony 4k projectors installed and how close you live to those locations using the search engines –
