From Bluray-disc.de :

Quote:
In Great Britain there is some time since first dealer information indicating that "Lawrence of Arabia" with Peter O'Toole in the title role, is expected on 10 September to celebrate 2012 as the digitally restored version of its HD debut on Blu-ray Disc. This information was reason enough for us to contact the German rights holder Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and asking for a German businessman start date. SPHE was officially confirm our editorial said that "Lawrence of Arabia" will be published in Germany in all probability in November 2012 on Blu-ray Disc. Gives details on the features and facilities are not yet. We will keep you up to date but, of course
So,yeah,it's coming.I believe it will be due in November for US as well.

So it was June, then September and now November. Translation: not coming in 2012. I now have absolutely no faith that this is coming in 2012. Should've figured this when they said that as of a month ago they were STILL working on the remaster.

A November release could still happen but I sort of agree, it seem that we should be looking at next year for this one

Not a comment directed at you, just saying this is why people shouldn't get to worked up over releases that haven't even been officially announced yet. All that happens is they get mad because it didn't meet it's "rumored" release date, then blame the company for taking too much time.

This is a repost from the UK forum but it sums things up perfectly. I simply don't get what in the blue hell could've been so wrong with this film that it has taken 6 bloody years to remaster it. How did its condition apparently deteriorate so badly since the 1980's remaster? Was it left out in open weather? Or was it more of what I strongly suspect which is that Sony is just simply feeding us lines about this remaster and they'll simply shove it out whenever they feel like it. I'm sorry, I don't believe for a minute they've been working on this thing for 6 years as they claim.

Could LOA have really been in that much worse shape than the first 2 Godfather films? My understanding is that those took a matter of months to remaster, maybe a year tops. Did LOA deteriorate as much in (as of 2006) less than 20 years from its previous remastering as the 2 Godfather films did in 30 years with no previous remastering? Sorry, I'm calling complete BS on this.

I am in general "calm" about rumors and such I sort of expect the movies I am hoping for when they become available and not before. I do know what you mean, there as been a lot of excitement about this particulat release which I think is because it's been in previews going back to 2008 or so and sene on HD movie channels for the last four years.

It's been on previews as far back as 2006.

Stand corrected! I knew it was a while just did not realise was going that far back. I have seen it on HD movie channel so far since 2009 I think five times (three of them the French translation). I have no idea how often it play's in other places but I suspect probably on a regular time frame. It's enough to frustrate people

It started running on HDNET here in the States in 2008. It recently began airing on Sony Movie Channel. But yes, this has been advertised as "coming soon to blu-ray" for 6 years now.

At this point, I actually don't mind if it comes out in 2013, as I've got so much preordered right now.

Better to take longer and get it right then rush the product out with mistakes.
5 to 6 years?
My goodness, they might as well just wait and release it on 4k media!

It's pretty strange all this work still being done. Of course one does not exclude the other but the prints I saw on HDTV look pretty incredible already, it's hard to imagine what else can be done on it?

I think they're busy CGI'ing sandtroopers and dewbacks in it. There's a lot of desert scenes, you know.

Most people don't have the equipment to take advantage of 4k but that's an entirely different argument.

Now that would be great addition to the movie.

Announcement coming soon

Quote:
The first big piece of news we have today is more Rumor Mill-worthy, except that it comes directly from Sony. The studio is holding a special screening of the new 4K digital restoration of Lawrence of Arabia at the Academy on July 19th (tickets are available at the linked site). This means that sometime between now and the 19th, you can expect Sony's official Blu-ray release announcement as well. And in fact, today we have a few details on what you'll find on the new Blu-ray. Planned as either a 2-disc or 3-disc BD set (we're working to confirm which it is), the disc will include a pair of new Blu-ray exclusive options including the Peter O'Toole Revisits Lawrence of Arabia featurette and an interactive Secrets of Arabia: Picture-in-Graphics Track. It appears that the set will also include most (if not all) of the previous DVD special features, including at least 5 legacy and vintage featurettes (Making of Lawrence of Arabia, A Conversation with Steven Speilberg, Maan, Jordan: The Camels Are Cast, In Search of Lawrence and Romance of Arabia - the latter newly restored for BD), original Newsreel Footage of the New York Premiere and a gallery of advertising campaign material. Note that this is a tentative list - we expect full official details soon. But it does appear that Sony is prepping an awfully nice release for high-definition. No street date or SRP yet (this should certainly be a major 3rd or 4th quarter release), but we'll bring them to you as soon as Sony makes the official announcement.

Some thing I heard way back when it was originally remastered was that Spielberg sat down to watch Lawrence with Lean during which Lean gave an impromptu commentary. How true this is I've no idea as it was a long time ago and haven't heard anything since and of course if it did happen then it's highly unlikely it was recorded anyway. That would be the ultimate extra. Anybody know anything about this one way or another ? I can't remember where I heard this from. If I do I'll post further on.
