That price is good enough. If it goes down even further then that's a bonus

Is Sony nuts? Almost one hundred dollars MSRP???? Casablanca limited & numbered deluxe edition with book was "only" $64.99 MSRP. That's just ridiculous. I was going to use my Columbia House bonus points to get this free, just the cost of shipping, but I may go with the single disc version and not blow all my points.

Yes, it is Lawrence of Arabia, and Sony did spend a fortune restoring it, but at some point you just have say c'mon, that's just ridiculous.

Right now is $67 at Amazon and it might decrease some more until Nov.

Yes, I did see that, and that's about $20 more than I would pay. It's 4 months until release so we'll see, but Amazon is pretty consistent about only discounting 30% for these big box sets, and that $67 price is 30% off. If you look at Casablanca limited box set Amazon's price has been pretty consistent at around $45-$47, and that's right at 30% off MSRP.

I checked and no one seems to have a listing for the single disc version Sony's press release said would also be released at the same time in the US, so I'll wait and see what that is priced at. I rarely watch extra features, so that is one premium priced coffee table book in the box set for me.

Yeah, I would prefer a standard case with just the movie for 20 bucks.

Sorry but I won't pay 70$ on ONE film, let alone 100$...

Much more attractive pricepoint...with plenty of time for a few drops along the way. I can, realistically, see this going for $49.99 on release day.

I would pay $70 only if this included the first official 4K disc. So then at least the set was futureproof

For me personally, I really want this, and absolutely will get it, but I'll wait for more like $30. Which actually could easily be a black Friday type price (if not better). Actually I bet if this is released widely enough (i.e. at Best Buy stores) that it will easily be $30 for the holidays. Ben Hur UCE was $10.99 last Christmas, and Ten Commandments $19.99 the Christmas before.

And will his viewing and auditory experience for this epic be any different than yours? The disc with the film is the same in the both single disc and boxed set editions.

And 'shame' on someone because they have limits on how much they will spend for any one film on blu-ray??? It's a movie on a Blu-ray disc, not a life or death decision concerning a loved one.

Yep!
Now I love fancy boxed sets, but I don't begrudge anyone that would rather get the "swag-free" version for cheaper. As you said you're still getting the exact same disc, in most cases.
Now I do begrudge people that begrudge people that DO like these "UCE" swag filled sets.
The door swings both ways afterall!

Absolutely! It's fine to just say I prefer just movie on a disc or that they don't care for the 'swag', not so fine to begrudge the folks who do enjoy that Deluxe/UCE box sets and put them down. I'm choosey and don't have that much space for the large box sets. Casablanca 70th Anniversary is the only one I currently have and like it alot, and was considering LoA. I do think the price on LoA is almost gougingly high, but have 4 months to think it over.

EDIT: Wanted to add that I also have Forever Marilyn on pre-order, for 9 bucks less than LoA (foxconnect w/coupon) and that's 7 films. And Marilyn Monroe.

I'm not sure if you are using a translator, but the original French Amazon pages describes it as a CD, not as an audio Blu-ray Disc.

Well a blu-ray audio disc would certainly explain why, in the promo photo, there are 4 discs all blu-ray logo stamped.

Edit: Just saw the closeup pic, and all 4 discs have "PG" rating on them. Would a blu-ray audio disc have a rating on it?

Oh man, that set looks amazing.

This is pretty much my favorite older movie, I'll probably be picking this up for sure. The box set looks too good to pass up.

Thanks! I will be sticking with the UK release then. Comes out 3 months earlier with the same transfer and the UK Sony Classics Collection (style) Slip (designed) like Stand By Me & Das Boot.

The release date on this version is very close to Black Friday! Stores need shelf space even from newer products. I would hold off on the first day buy of the boxset unless the store you purchased it at gives price adjustment for sales holiday items.

Default I can't justify the price. I have to wait for it to drop.

I know it's a classic. I realize there are some good supplemental materials nicely packaged together with this movie.
Still...
It's ultimately just a single movie. It's not like a collection of great movies or an enhanced 3-D movie bundled in, but one movie.
IMO, given the current price, unless you absolutely HAVE to have it, I'd suggest waiting. Citizen Kane ultimate set dropped (and that actually has a second movie packaged with it), Ben-Hur dropped too.
I've purchased and/or admired other "classic" box sets, complete with supplemental materials and they are priced considerably less than this, so IMO it's better to wait on this.
