I wouldn't worry about how many discs the film will be on. Some of the very best people in the industry are working on this release.

That looks like the French Limited Edition.

So would I. I'm all for innovative packaging, but I prefer consisteny with my classics.

A movement needs to start where studios don't paste the Oscar accolades on the front cover. I know it's a source of pride for them but it's..........the Oscars

A studio not advertising the success of a movie on it's poster/cover/TV spot/whatever? That'll happen soon enough .

I think the boutique labels are the only ones that don't do it.

secondly why see a movie in DCP when the 70mm version will be superior in both resolution and audio - for the latter Sony really should have resurrected 8-channel SDDS for the theatrical release and/or utilized the five front mix that I mentioned before. From what I'm gather, the October theatrical release will ONLY be released in 2K/4K DCP form, no new 70mm prints will be culled, which is very unfortunate.
The resolution would be better technically, but isn't the whole point that they've done this big frame-by-frame digital restoration to fix lots of damage etc? Surely it'll look better than an old 70mm print for this reason?

I doubly pray for it not to be. I never have and never will be convinced that 4 hours of film can't comfortably fit on a 50GB disc regardless of quality.

The Ten Commandments is split on two Blu-rays.
Disc one 42GB, Disc two 29GB. Total 71GB.

The Ten Commandments is stunning on Blu-ray... and it would not look as good if they crammed it all on one Blu-ray.

Ben-Hur Disc one 40GB, Disc two 20 GB. Total 62GB. The PQ and AQ are incredible. I guess it depends on how good you want your movies to look. I want the movies I purchase on Blu-ray to look as good as they possibly can.

Totally agree!
I thought the 4 discs had been broken down as:

Disc1: movie part.1
Disc2: movie part.2
Disc3: extras
Disc4: audio BD

I know there are movies that are split into 2. I'm just not at all convinced in the slightest that it's even remotely necessary.

Lawrence of Arabia is one of those that's in my slippery area. My rule is generally that any film under 3.5 hours has no reason to be split. Anything over 4 hours has no reason to be crammed on one disc. 3.5-4 hours is that slippery area. Lawrence of Arabia is just under 4 hours with all its music cues included and given its aspect ratio, I see no reason this film needs to be split. It should be possible to do this without compromising the restoration quality.

In all fairness though, I do expect it to be split for the sole purpose of driving the price up. Extra disc means extra charge and having seen what The Digital Bits has listed for on-disc bonuses with this title, I see no reason to believe that all those extras won't be alone on the 3rd disc.

Go look up a TV show called The Invisible Man that recently came out on BD, and get back to me.

Well you don't actually believe this is coming out on blu-ray until it's in your hands:

So you've got nothing to worry about.

Forgive me for being skeptical given this title's history of "release dates." Do you have something personal against me? This is the second or third time you've tried to start something with me. Perhaps I'm mistaking you for someone else but unless someone else has that same dog picture in their avatar, then no I'm not mistaken. If you have something personal against me, PM it and get it off this thread. Otherwise do not open your mouth to me again unless you intend to engage in a civil discussion about the topic at hand.

Just did. Quite a difference between 11 hours and 4 hours.
